quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

My title today is a Latin phrase, which is over used and very popular. It is originally from from Satires of Juvenal, the 1st–2nd century Roman satirist. The original sonet was about marital fidelity, and it reads like below:

audio quid ueteres olim moneatis amici,
"pone seram, cohibe." sed quis custodiet ipsos
custodes? cauta est et ab illis incipit uxor.

This translates to approximately

I hear always the admonishment of my friends:
"Bolt her in, constrain her!" But who will guard
the guardians? The wife plans ahead and begins with them.

If you read this the concept is fairly obvious. Juvenal is saying it is hard to control infidelity by force or guarding. Life finds its way!

However, later on with time the the phase got a much deeper and profound meaning in politics and governance. This is where today, I had to use this phrase in mav-chat today.

For a while, there have been discussion about 'moderation' in mav-chat. I have supported the concept. However, there always a need to question the 'competency' of the moderators, read 'guardians'. So today, I did.

This is YOUR duty as a citizen

I am a deeply political person. I believe, politics in its original form is as old as civilization itself, and there is place for it in today's world which is above all the illutionist campaigns, and corruption and global propaganda. Juvenal's original question remains a fundamental question about the effectiveness of democracy. Common people, must always watch over their elected leaders, and impeach them or take disciplinary action against them if they fail to act in fullfilling their duties. This is easy to say, but quite hard to implement.

Well, look at present day US politics if you need any reminding.

At hive, I have tried to do that as soon as I had some meaningful stake. Trust me, it is not easy to do. Usually you are called a 'bully'. I have been called a bully numerous times. I have been called a 'bully' multiple times today. Multiple time by a person who 'we' employ as a 'moderator'. Yet the strongest word I have used was 'moronic' which means stupidity. When pressed the 'guardian' said, it is 'not the words' it is the approach that was unacceptable. So I went ahead and checked the gentleman's wallet!

Call me a crook, but that is what I do first thing. No, I won't mention it. No, I won't show a screenshot! You go ahead and you look how are we paying individual. Nothing wrong with that I say. I don't see any abuse. Small time things folks, nothing to see there!
