What is YGGSPL?

YGGSPL is one of two tokens earned through participating in one of the many YGG Guilds with Splinterlands. For more info on the YGG alliance of guilds, why I joined, and what else you might want to consider when looking for a guild, check out my guide. (The other token is YGG, and I have a similar guide coming out about it tomorrow). There are 2M of these tokens, and you can read about the distribution in the whitepaper (here).

I am personally in YGG-Niflheim, one of the YGG Brawlers guilds. While I joined the guild for the people (and I have stayed for that as well), the ability to earn tokens with real value by doing the things I'd do in Splinterlands already is the cherry on top.

How do I earn YGGSPL?

I joined during the second "Season" YGG ran. I'll speak to that season, with the knowledge that things may change in future season. During the season, there were a number of quests. Each quest had a pot of YGGSPL attached, and everyone completing that quest evenly shared the pot. For example, one quest was to participate in 60% of the brawls during the season. Another quest was to do well in sponsored tournaments. There were a large variety of quests which allowed people to pick and choose which ones they wanted to focus on and played to a variety of personalities and strengths.

At the end of the season, the rewards were divvied out accordingly. Personally, I earned 476 YGGSPL (0.2% of the total).

How do I claim YGGSPL?

While you may have earned YGGSPL during the season, it is not a token on the hive blockchain, so claiming it requires a little extra work. First, you need a YGG badge. This is required to earn season rewards. To do so, go to https://yieldguild.io/ and connect your wallet. You can then click to mint your badge which will only cost you the ETH gas fees.

And then you'll have your badge. Here's mine. So pretty!

Now that you've got your badge, you'll be eligible for YGGSPL rewards. To get them, you first need to connect your Metamask to the BNB smartchain. To do that, you'll complete the following steps:

1. Click “Settings.” Find the settings link by clicking on the circle icon in the top right corner of the MetaMask wallet screen once you log in.
2. Click “Network.”
3. Click “Add Network.”
4. Input BNB Smart Chain Information. Start typing “https://bsc-dataseed.binance.org/” in the “New PNC URL” field. Next, type “56” into the field for “Chain ID.” Type “BNB” in the “Symbol” field and “https://bscscan.com/” in the “Block Explorer URL” field. Now, click “Save.”
   If you were successful, your metamask will now look like the following:

Notice is says "Smart Chain" at the top and has "BNB" as the main currency.

Finally, we need to import the YGGSPL token. To do so, while in the Smart Chain, click "import tokens at the bottom of metamask

Then click "custom token" at the top, and enter "0xeb5997Fcaacaf946ccbEfb64Eb07f14e74e00dFc" in the token address. Type "YGGSPL" in the token symbol, and then click "import" (the token decimal should auto-populate). Congratulations, YGGSPL should now show up in your wallet!

How do I buy YGGSPL?

What if you didn't earn as many YGGSPL as you'd have liked? Or you think stocking up is a really good idea and want to get some more? Good news! You can buy some.

To buy YGGSPL, you should join the YGGSPL discord (if you're in a YGG guild already, you should be in it! if you're not, here's the link: https://discord.gg/EW3MxXEx). In #purchase-tokens, you will find instructions for buying tokens at their current value (calculated as the total value of the subDAO / 2M, so each YGGSPL will "own" 1/2Millionth of the subDAO). At the time of writing, that's about 0.15USD. You then fill out a form, send in DEC equal to the value in tokens you're buying and voila! Tokens for you.

What can I do with YGGSPL?

You might now be asking, "great, I've gotten all these tokens. What do I do with them?" In general, YGGSPL is pretty similar to SPS: it is a governance token which gives you a voting share in the subDAO. Like with SPS, this allows you to vote on subDAO proposals (including how the subDAO will vote with its SPS on DAO proposals). So YGGSPL enfranchise you within the YGG SPL space and make sure your voice is heard.

There is also likely to be future utility in the form of land rentals. Most of the subDAO's holdings are in the form of 2000 plots of land. It is likely (although not guaranteed) that YGGSPL will be "staked" in some manner to rent the subDAO's plots. If this is the case, each 1,000 YGGSPL or so will guarantee one plot (2M/2000=1000), although the specifics of course could differ. This could be a great way to access land if you're in the YGGSPL ecosystem and want to use some land.

There will also likely be future use that the guild hasn't even thought of, which will be voted on and added as Splinterlands expands.

How do I vote with YGGSPL?

As I mentioned, you can use your YGGSPL to vote on how the YGG subDAO votes with its SPS among other things. I will illustrate how to vote with your YGGSPL so you can become a voting member!

First, make sure your YGGSPL is in your Metamask wallet. When a vote is up, a post will be made in with the #yggspl-token or #governance-discussion channels of the YGG discord. You then click the link, which will take you to the vote on snapshot.com. Once there, you'll click "connect wallet" in the upper right, sign the transaction, and then you're good to go! Then you can click "For", "Against" or "Abstain" in the voting section and make your voice heard!

How do I sell YGGSPL?

But now you say "YGGSPL sounds dumb. I want to sell mine! Give me [insert currency here] instead!" To which I say: I'd hold it. But if you insist, you can of course sell it as it is your token.

So far, I've shown you how to import your token. But now we want to see how to sell it.

The easiest way to do so is to swap it within Metamask on the BNB smart chain. To do so, click on the YGGSPL in your assets,then click "swap". Choose the token you want to receive, how much YGG you want to exchange, then click "Review". There will be a small gas fee in BNB so make sure you've got some of that, and then it will be done at current YGGSPL and paired token rates!

You can then transfer that token out of your metamask account into the wallet of your choosing, and trade as you normally would.
