Impressed by the features of the Splinterlands proposal system which Hive lacks

avatar

I recently noticed that there was a proposal system in splinterlands. I did not check in detail and I was able to see an active proposal too. People can stake their SPS and with the SPS power, they can vote on a proposal. This is definitely an interesting thing and probably a good feature to slowly move towards decentralization and community participation and decisions. I'm glad that Splinterlands took this great step.

With this, it is also now clear that having a decent SPS stake is very important to decide on these proposals. The community members might come up with some ideas and this proposal system can make them a reality. I'm glad that this is happening. I currently have a voting power of around 65k SPS power. I don't know how much they really contribute to voting but I'm thinking that every SPS power definitely is a good addition. One good thing about splinterlands is that when they introduce new features the old investors are getting some value from their investment and the new feature somehow rewards the old investors. That's something that is being handled very well by Splinterlands.

Comparing Splinterlands proposal system with Hive proposal system

The first thing that impressed me in the Splinterlands proposal system is the option to vote both ways. We can either vote for the proposal or vote against a proposal. The final outcome of the proposal is determined based on which side the weightage is high. In the above case, about 83% of the voters voted for the proposal and 17% of the people voted against the proposal. When SPS is spread out very well, the votes will make a lot more sense and not one person will be able to farm the rewards from the proposal system.

On Hive I personally feel that DAO is not very good. We have a vote For the option but we don't have a vote Against the option. There is a small workaround where people vote for the returned proposal instead and increase the limit. I have always felt that there should be a Vote Against the option. Sometimes I see proposals that are not worth getting funded. There can be several reasons to justify that. Maybe there can be a vote For and vote Against option and a comment field that is available where people who are voting For or Against can describe a little about their decisions. Some people don't even have to explain why they are doing it. It would really be a fair thing instead of providing projects to loot from the DAO system.

There are some proposals that are looting more than what they should be getting as funds. Not just me but many people have expressed this thought. In that case, when we are ready to control the abuse system with the help of a downvote button for the reward pools on the comments contract, why not have a vote Against option on the DAO system and witness vote system? All the governance voting should technically have both options if we are not planning to keep it centralized. Let the public decide which one they would like to support and which one they don't want to support. In my humble opinion, if we don't want to support some proposal, not voting for that proposal is not the same as voting against a proposal. This kind of system works only if 10 parties are competing against each other in an election. DAO is not such a thing. Maybe if I'm not understanding the cons of the voting Against option, I'm happy to listen if someone is ready to explain why it is bad.

The entire vote system is so hidden on Hive it's crazy and when you do find it it's confusing AF to even know what is going on. The same for the witness system and in a way I feel like they keep it this way those at the top because they don't want to be challenged. Heck I could be wrong though.

The sheer lack of development on hive is dumbfounding and slow for what it really possibly could be. I rather they build products and not all this backend stuff no one sees. It provides pretty much no value to the hive system in terms of price and adoption.

I’m made to understand that what’s currently being built is the infrastructure through which those products will operate on.

I kind of agree with a vote against system would be nice for Hive but I guess it should pass so long as there is enough of a ratio. While it might affect a few things on the edge, I don't think it would affect things too much.
