Splinterlands Card Review #5: Scavo Firebolt

Living within the Realm of Silence, the mole-like race of Scavo were affected by the toxic gas from the Mountain of Ash. They became highly intelligent and worked diligently to protect their home from the blight. Scavo Firebolts were particularly changed by their proximity to the magma, developing the ability to summon and launch bolts of fire from their palms. They defend their home by launching these fire bolts from great distances. Approaching enemies don't even realize the danger until fire begins to rain from above. Those that are incapacitated are especially vulnerable.

The Scavo Firebolt - A good backline at a good price!

Hey Splinterfans, Gamers and Collectors!

Today I'll be reviewing Scavo Firebolt, a low-mana ranged card in the P2E game Splinterlands!

The Fire Splinter... I think it would be safe to say most people go with Melee builds in the Fire splinter. For good reason, there's a lot of great options! While Yodin does indeed exist, it's not always the best option for your rank. If you're in Bronze or Silver, likely you have seen and used mostly melee with the fire splinter.
Personally, I consider fire a mostly physical splinter. A lot of great melee and ranged options, with plenty of great abilities available. While Magic builds in fire splinter can be great, I would say that those are best when used in conjunction with the Dragon splinter.

Scavo Firebolt is one of the new Chaos Legion cards, and I consider it the fire counterpart to Kulu Swimhunter. The Chaos Legion seemed to introduce quite the mix of cards, from ones with a heavy set of abilities to ones with simply reliable stats.

Let's dive in!

Stat Breakdown:

As seen above, Scavo Firebolt is straightforward card in terms of usage.

Level 1-3, with 2 ranged, 4HP, 2 Speed and a 4 mana cost, it has a solid start. In these levels it gains some more HP and Speed.

Level 4-6, gaining an additional 1 ranged damage, and some more speed along the way, Scavo cements its position as a reliable card. In addition, it gains the knock out ability at level 6.

Level 9-Max, it gains an additional 1 ranged damage ending at a solid 4 Ranged. At max level, it gains 1 more HP, ending at 6HP.

So where does this card shine?
With reliable stats, and a reasonable mana cost, Scavo Firebolt stands to be a solid 2nd or 3rd choice in your lineup. A generally useful card, and with knock-out it becomes more powerful, especially being in the fire splinter.

Compared to its main competition, Spark Pixies, this card has more HP and at max level has more damage. When used together, they are quite a powerful combo in later ranks. Firebolt is also much cheaper with higher circulation than Pixies.

This card does well as backline damage that can take a couple hits from sneak monsters, or when you're using Yodin in low-mid mana battles and are attempting to maximize blast/ranged damage. It's not especially powerful or weak in any situation, simply a good card!

Overall, this card is a good choice for a 4 mana ranged unit.

Where I like to use this card:

Most often I will use this card as additional rear damage alongside a melee build. Sometimes I'll add it in the 6th place and have my lower HP unit like Spark Pixies or Fire Elemental in 5th slot. To prevent the chance of those cards being wiped out early from sneak. In later ranks, this card works great with Spark Pixies, as Pixies gains stun and this card has Knock Out, however I rarely rent high BCX of those particular cards. I use this card quite often simply as additional rear damage that can take a couple hits, or in close-ranged. Using this card with Yodin is quite fun as well.

To the fights!

Here's a situation where I use this card as additional rear damage. While I admit I scuffed my lineup a little bit here, it still worked well. The reason I chose this and Lava Spider was because I knew they could take at least 3 turns of poison damage alongside the +1HP from Tarsa. Forgotten one, of course, is the real key to the win in this round. However some durable backline units were a must as well!

Results? I am the winner, another good fight!

Now I pull out everyone's favorite card (and I card I want to own someday🤣) Yodin.
I choose Tusk The Wide as a powerful frontline. Behind, I have Ash Golem and Lava Launcher. A couple tough close-range units. Behind I have a cheap ranged unit, followed by Spark Pixies in 5th place, and our favorite Scavo, Scavo Firebolt in the rear. This was, again, to avoid any sneak damage from taking out my Pixies and/or Fireballer in 1 turn. This match worked out very well, though I was counting on a swift victory as the earthquake damage would have cleared over half my team in 3 turns.

Results? Scavo Firebolt scores an assist and I win!

Undervalued or Overvalued?

At the time of writing, this card sits around a reasonable $0.14 / 125 DEC.
Overall, the price has held up well compared to other cards. Like many cards, or P2E games in general, it's a slow crawl upwards at times. Though, with Chaos Legion still not sold out, and the new ghost card nerd coming soon, I think the future is looking good for Firebolt.

Like many cards, since it's a starter card the value is a bit low. This effect should be reduced with the upcoming updates, however that will still stand true to a degree even then. Compared to competition, it's not always the best choice. However, it still is somewhat unique and works very well alongside the cards that compete with it at this mana range.

My thoughts - Slight Undervalue. While it doesn't offer anything noteworthy, it fills some voids in the fire splinter and doesn't require synergy to be a good card. Many cards now are low in price anyways, and this card isn't unique enough to stand out in a saturated and/or bearish market. I do think the future is bright for Scavo Firebolt, and as more cards are released I believe it still retain its value. It's in high circulation as well, so it will be more affordable and easier to obtain, and I imagine some people will choose this over Spark Pixies for that reason. Compared to other cards in the current market, I think it's a reasonable card to buy or rent with the price it is at.

If you somehow haven't used Scavo Firebolt, give it a try! It's a good card!
