Bila the radiant | Splinterlands contest week 205

(Edited)

Hey ho~ I'm back from wherever it is I came from
I spent the whole afternoon sleeping then sketching today. I was supposed to draw a lot more today but since watercolor tends to eat up so much time, I only got around to doing one drawing today and that happens to be Bila the radiant!

I've been wanting to do this on digital, actually. I've tried, of course, ut ultimately, it doesn't come close to what my traditional render shows.

Here, I've already taped her to my journal because I couldn't take a decnet shot without the paper falling.

For the materials: I used yellow ink for the background, Saemiart watercolor, white ink, and a black pen

Total duration: 1 hour, and some 3 minutes or so

So here are the progression shots. Or at least, the ones I remembered to take whenever I finish a watercolor layer (I'm forgetful with taking progression shots, okay-)

Up to here is all watercolor and then I left it for a while because I had to cook dinner for the fam

Then from this point on, I just focused on they dry medium and on inking a few layers in to give it a bit more shape and details.

So this is how far my digital attempt went, as you can see, I got lazy on the detailing part XD

Then for the image I based off, I used the splintercards picture which I downloaded here: https://www.splintercards.com/reward-bila-the-radiant

This is all from me for today! thannk you for taking the time to read through my little art blog!

Yep, your traditional is superior to digital (on tab) but I liked your graphic tablet versions even more. I believe you had more experience in that. Airbrushing in that was sooo... good.

That was when I was on sai ;;-;; medibang is harder to control than medibang but maybe I'll try airbrush with medibang. I mostly use watercolor there because of the blending properties and the airbrush on medibang just doesn't have the capabilities to blend

I know, the difference in style was very obvious after you started using medibang. It will probably take some time to get used to it but I know these softwares have a lot of custom free brushes available. You should try following someone on YouTube who is using it. Rang said she studied from such videos.

I've been trying to study but my problem as of late is that the new pup freking ate my stylus and all the spare ones I kept 😤😤😤 so now I can't even digital and I'm getting frustrated. I tried downloading medibang on my phone but my fingers cannot do details and it hurts ;;-;;

Yesterday I was trying semi realism again on phone and I realised that I just can't do it xd. You need the right tools to do all that. I think you should do traditional since you have skills and experience in that and also I see many posting traditional splinterlands entries.

Too bad your puppies ate all the stylus. I hope they are okay xd. Cell shading is possible with fingers but you will need god tier patience and experience if it's realism. It takes the joy out of painting xd.

So now you feel my pain with realism 😅 it's seriously not doable without the stylus or a drawing tab since it has a lot more brush stroke and mixing than in anime style and not being able to do a proper line with fingers annoy the heck out of me too. Hopefully you can get the tolls you'll need for semi-realism tho. I think I'll be saving up for clip studio and a new stylus. Clip studio is a lot closer to sai. Krita mobile is still in beta so it keeps dropping on my tab

I totally understand xd. Anime style painting is doable with fingers. The only headache with that is the lineart but after that it's super easy to paint. Everytime I see someone do realism I get an urge to do it but I think its time to forget it until I get all the tools. Now I'm just trying to achieve cell shading mastery hahaha.

Your traditional arts are always lit. Well, whether it is traditional or digital, it looks great naman. Galing mo kahit saan. Also, stopping in between sa painting session para magtake ng photos nakakawala ng momentum naman talaga. Or if nasa zone ka, the last thing you would do is to stop and take a photo. 😅

My digital art needs to improveee but I need stylussss
And true, super nakakawalang gana Yung photo taking progress because your focus shifts and instead of wanting to make good art, you suddenly aim for better shots. That's why I only take shots when I'm in the drying process or pag waiting time
