Battle mage secret: Fire & Regret
Introduction
This week we have a look at the fire & regret rule set. Easy rule set to avoid or counter. but when combined with some other rule sets it becomes interesting like
Ruleset
All units receive the Return Fire ability. Enemy units that attack with ranged attacks receive damage back.
Notes:
- Damage returned is equal to damage of the attacker divided by 2, rounded up.
Official ruleset information from splinterlands: List-of-In-Game-Rulesets
Amplify - This increases the return fire damage with 1.
a few of my favorites.
Reflection shield - return fire is absorbed, must say i do not own a single ranged monster with reflection shield.
Shield - The Shield ability reduces Melee and Ranged attacks by 50%, rounded up. If played by your opponent, be aware that shield will reduce damage returned from the Return Fire ability.
Thorns / Magic reflect - I like to bring an extra monster with an other return fire because the change is higher that no ranged monster is played therefore a higher chance that melee or magic is played.
Favorites I like to use then are:
Avoid
Lets start with the obvious one leave the ranged attackers at home.
Less obvious is the Headwinds, the change is less likely that ranged monsters are used therefor -1 range is less likely to have major impact.
Example battle
Strategy
Medium mana battle where it becomes interesting no melee units and with fire and regret. so expect some magic unit. I directly like to also pick a magic reflect unit.
Rulesets
Rise of the Commons:
Only common and rare units can be selected.
Fire & Regret:
Al ranged attackers will receive return fire damage.
Keep Your Distance:
No melee units are allowed. So magic an ranged units will be on the battlefield. In combination with Fire & Regret this will most often bring magic units
The Lineup
Summoner
Card | Reason |
---|---|
I doubted between Rathe and Lux. but lux is maxed so i picked her. I like the amplify of rathe but bring some maxed unit is more preferable at this moment. |
Monsters Lineup
#1 | #2 | #3 | #4 | #5 | #6 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Pelacor Conjurer (lvl 10)
Major important unit with ranged units it will do return fire because of fire & regret. Return damage also with magic reflect win win situation.
Anachron Bolter (lvl 6)
The headwinds will reduce the ranged damage. Also the repair in combination with lux is great to repair some armor.
Time Mage (lvl 8)
Slow and remove 2 armor and with magic so less chance to get return damage.
Venari Crystalsmith (lvl 8)
Some extra healer to let the Pelacor Conjurer do its thing with return fire.
Pelacor Arbalest (lvl 8)
The double strike is some what risky with the fire & regret rule set. still i hope to kill the unit before to much return damage is done.
Supply Runner (lvl 10)
Another unit to get me strike first with the swiftness and the strength is important to give some extra health. With all the return fire I can use all the health i can get.

Rounds
Start :
Almost a full gold deck against me with some nice older card Gelatinous Cube that has heal so a good tank position.
I love the martyr option that is also great in combination with fire & regret because it needs to be killed to buff the rest.
If i can get trough the Gelatinous Cube quickly is should be oke. Also the magic reflect is greatly in my advantage.
Round 1:
Great to see that the first round most return damage is absorbed by the armor gained from lux. Killed the Gelatinous Cube. Next stop Fungus Flinger this will buff the Regal Peryton but i think it will be ok.
Round 2:
My opponent had some misses on my Pelacor Conjurer. The battle is over, the strongest units are gone. Now 1 range unit is in the front that cannot attack.
even with the return fire on my range units they are still alive.
Round 3:
This was a brutal round and killed all unit that still could attack now the last unit is in the front that cannot attack any more.
My only unit that is killed id killed trough return damage.
Round 4:
Victory.
Conclusion
Fun to watch when Keep you distance and Fire & regret rule sets are in play.
Its not a complicated rule set and easy to come with strategies that does not trigger the return damage.
That's all for this week hope you enjoyed reading this ruleset strategy/analysis. See you all on the battlefield.
