Land Manager Update: More Filters, Better DEC Management & Production Improvements

Welcome back everyone!

Last week I have been pushing quite a few releases for the Land site, so now it is time to actually sit down and write a proper post about what changed. That way everyone can see what has been added without having to dig through all my messages in the Land Baron channel. 🤣

A lot of the feedback and ideas for these updates came from the community, with quite a few comments and suggestions coming from @fatjimmy and @lunacysystem. Thanks for continuing to throw ideas, issues, and feature requests my way!

Some of these changes are pretty small quality of life improvements, while others required a bit more work behind the scenes.

Hopefully they all make your Land journey just a little bit easier. 😍

So without further ado, let's dive into what changed in versions v1.18.0 through v1.20.0.

💬 Ideas and feature requests are always welcome. No promises but I will take a look and try my best.

Better DEC Management Across Regions

One of the bigger changes in this release is how the Land Manager handles DEC across your regions.

Previously, the DEC alerts were based only on the regions you had enabled in your Land Manager configuration.

That made sense from a configuration perspective, but not necessarily from a DEC management perspective. You might own several regions while only actively managing a few of them through the tool.

The DEC calculations now look at all regions you own, regardless of which regions are enabled in your configuration.

This applies to both the alerts and the DEC power up/down functionality.

The DEC controls are also available when you do not have any regions enabled in your configuration.

Also when you are now changing up plot and you introduce a short fall on dec it will tell you up front... because when you save the new plot it will trigger a harvest region.
important to know upfront Thanks @fatjimmy for reporting this... this was btw the hardest change in this release!!!

image.png

Also when saving the plot it will alert you again!!
Until now i only tested the cancel at this point i have no reason to think why the save would not work.
For now you sill have to load up DEC upfront in the spl site or just harvest before you start editing plot (this is what i always do)

Regional DEC Imbalance

There was another interesting situation with DEC that the previous calculation could hide.

Imagine one region has too much DEC staked while another region does not have enough.

Globally, those two values could cancel each other out and make it look like everything is perfectly balanced.

Of course, your workers in the region that is short on DEC do not care that another region has too much. 🤣:

The Land Manager will now detect this situation and show a regional imbalance warning, even when your total DEC shortfall or excess across all regions comes out to zero.

This should give a much better picture of where your DEC actually needs to be.

previous this was considered as enough dec staked oopsie

Production Configure Improvements

The Production Configure panel received some love as well.

One important fix is related to Bloodline boosts.

Previously, when changing your worker lineup, the Bloodline boost could keep using an old value. For example, removing or replacing a card did not always immediately update the Bloodline calculation.

This calculation now works more like the Planner.

The Bloodline boost is recalculated directly from the worker lineup you are currently staging, so when you add, remove, or replace workers you should immediately see the correct result.

See Your Changes Before Applying Them

I also changed the summary in the Configure panel to make it easier to see what your planned worker changes are actually doing.

Your current production values remain visible as a baseline.

When you start making changes, a second staged row appears showing the new calculated values.

The differences are highlighted with color coded deltas, and the values transition over two seconds so it is easier to spot exactly what changed.

Hopefully this makes experimenting with different worker combinations a little more intuitive.

Jump to Boosted PP

Another quality of life feature added to worker selection is Jump to Boosted PP.

When you are looking for a card around a specific Boosted PP value, scrolling through your entire collection can become annoying pretty quickly.

You can now enter the Boosted PP value you are looking for.

If an exact match exists, the Land Manager jumps directly to it.

If there is no exact match, it will take you to the closest available value instead. When two cards are equally close, the lower value is selected.

A small feature, but hopefully a useful one when you already know roughly how much PP you need.

Search Workers by Card Name

Speaking about finding cards, the Card Filter Drawer now also has a Search card name field.

Just start typing part of the card name and the available cards are filtered immediately.

The search is case insensitive and matches cards containing the text you entered.

Especially for larger collections, this should make finding that one specific worker much faster.

And finally, the Verico set has been added to the available filters.

More Production Filters

There are a few more filtering improvements in these releases.

The Production filters now include a Has Runi option with:

  • Any
  • Yes
  • No

This uses the Runi boost on the plot to determine whether a Runi is present.

I also made the reusable Yes/No filter controls a little more compact, so they take up less space in the filter drawer.

Totem and Title Deed Filters

The Deed Overview received some additional filters as well.

You can now filter deeds based on their Totem:

  • Common
  • Rare
  • Epic
  • Legendary

And there is a new Title filter:

  • Rare
  • Epic
  • Legendary

These filters use the total Totem and Title boost on the deed, making it easier to quickly narrow down your plots based on the bonuses they currently have.

Open a Plot Directly in the Land Manager

This is another quality of life improvement that should make moving between the different parts of the site much smoother.

The Manage Plot button in the Deed Overview now gives you two choices:

  • Open in Splinterlands
  • Open in Land Manager

Choosing Land Manager takes you directly to the Production page with the region, tract, and plot filters already filled in.

When those values resolve to one specific plot, the Land Manager will automatically open its Configure panel once everything has loaded.

So instead of finding a plot in the Deed Overview and then searching for the same plot again in Production, you can jump straight into managing it.

The URL parameters are also handled safely. If only some values are provided, the valid filters are still applied. Invalid values are ignored instead of breaking the page.

Better Worker Availability Checks

There were also a couple of fixes around determining whether a card can actually be placed on Land.

A card being listed somewhere does not automatically mean it should be unavailable.

The Land Manager now checks whether the listed card is actually still owned by you before marking it as unavailable for Land.

I also added cooldown as a visible reason why a card cannot currently be placed on Land.

Hopefully this makes it a bit clearer why certain cards cannot be selected instead of simply leaving you wondering what is wrong with them.

Other Fixes

A few smaller fixes and technical improvements also made it into these releases.

The Land Manager had an issue where it was not working correctly when you were not logged in. This has been fixed.
The maintenance guard has also been added back after it disappeared somewhere along the way.

Behind the scenes I migrated Storybook from @storybook/nextjs-vite to @storybook/nextjs. I also cleaned up and consolidated some of the filter components and Storybook stories.

Nothing exciting to look at there, but hopefully it means less duplicated code and easier maintenance for me going forward.

And easier maintenance means more time to build actual features. 🤣

Closing Notes

That wraps up v1.18.0, v1.19.0 and v1.20.0 of the Land Manager.

Quite a few changes for only a couple of days!

Again, thanks to everyone testing the site and sending feedback. Special thanks this round to @fatjimmy and @lunacsystem for several of the comments and ideas that ended up in these releases.

As always, I try to test everything as much as possible, but Land has many different configurations, collections, regions, and edge cases that I simply cannot reproduce myself.

So if something looks wrong, a calculation seems strange, or you have another idea that could make managing Land easier, let me know.

Some requests might be small, some might turn into something much bigger than expected. 🤣

But keep them coming!

Hopefully these updates save everyone a few more clicks and make managing your Land just a little easier.

Beaker signing off.
