Land Site Update: Net Production Rankings and Inactivity Insights

avatar

Hey splinterfam,

Here we go again. Another week another update on the land site. This time with three new features that have been on the request list or bug list for a while and I am pretty happy how they turned out.

If you do not want to read the full post and just want to click around yourself you can find everything here
https://land.spl-stats.com/

Lets walk over the new features one by one.

Add Net Production Ranking

Last week I released the production ranking and almost instantly some feedback popped up in the Splinterlands land discord. Part of it was visual feedback but there was also a really interesting request from @vugtis asking for a net production ranking.
At first I thought yeah that actually makes a lot of sense. it is a bit harder than just ranking raw production but the data is there so why not give it a try.

So what is net production ranking.
net production takes into account not only what you produce but also what you consume. The consumed resources are deducted first and then the ranking is calculated.

This means that if you have a strong wood production but at the same time you run a lot of research aura or SPS plots your net wood production can actually be much lower and your rank can drop compared to pure production ranking.

You can now simply toggle between production ranking and net production ranking and get a much more realistic view of how your land is actually performing.

Add isConstruction to consume cost

This one came from a report by @dexy50. He noticed that some values in the player region overview did not line up with what he saw in Splinterlands itself and asked if this could be related to buildings that are still under construction. And yes he was absolutely right.

I already knew this logic was missing in a few places on the site but I never really prioritized it. The number of plots under construction is relatively small and it mainly affects Research/AURA and SPS plots but still incorrect data is incorrect data.

So I spent some time fixing this and making the calculations more accurate. this change actually has implications in multiple parts of the system.
Now when a building is under construction it will only consume grain.

Consistent with what splinterlands itself show:

Note that the net DEC is still negative in this case because you do not produce anything while the building is under construction.

In the region overview I also added a clear indication of how many plots are under construction so you get a better overview at a glance. Hover over the values to see exactly what is what.

Add Inactivity Page

This feature has been on my wish list for a long time and it was also requested by @jovak (GatheringTheMagic) and @leveluplive who many of you know as the Splinterlands Land Guy on discord.

Honestly it was a bit lower on my priority list but after two or three reminders it was clear that more people were interested in this so I finally started working on it.

Fair warning the code is still a bit rough and yes there is probably a bit too much AI generated code in there. I should clean it up at some point but for now it does the job. Can someone invent a time potion for real life please.

You can find the new page here
https://land.spl-stats.com/region-overview/inactivity

So what will you see on this page.

First there is a summary section. before that lets define what inactive means here. if you disagree let me know in the comments and also what you think it should be.

My definition of inactive is
rewards per hour greater than 0 so positive PP and staked DEC
last operation more than two weeks ago

Why two weeks. After 7 days normal plots are at 100% capacity and you start losing resources. So if someone has not done anything for two weeks they already missed that window. From that point on I consider the plot inactive. It might be a bit strict which is why the rest of the page goes into more detail.

Next you see all inactive plots grouped into time buckets. first the two week bucket and then monthly buckets with everything above twelve months grouped together.

Already some pretty interesting information if you ask me.

After that I added a list of players with the most inactive plots. Especially interesting are the players that have one hundred percent inactive plots.
This is not meant as a blame list. Everybody should play how they want. But this will matter later when we talk about castle and keep owners.

image.png

Then there is a view where you can select an inactivity bucket and see up to one hundred players that fall into that bucket. This is just a starting point and I can add more details later if there is demand for it.

image.png

Now this is where it becomes really interesting for castle and keep owners so let me give a concrete example.

I know that @ourfadedglory has a keep in region 85 tract 6 so lets take a look.

image.png

You can see that there is only one inactive player there which is not a lot out of the total. From this I can also directly see that there are fifty eight plots that are totally inactive with zero production going on.

If you know the player on discord you could give them a friendly nudge to at least harvest their land or maybe ask if the plot is for sale.

As a castle owner you can do the same on a full region level and identify players you might want to contact.

Closing notes

Well that is it for this update. I personally really like this new way of looking at land data. It is a totally different perspective and definitely kept me busy during the week.

have a nice weekend and see you all on the battlefield.
