My battle challenge this week with the dragon theme

Intro

Dragon splinter, not sure why, but i almost never use dragon. Even i got a GF card. In the battle of today I used the default summoner and the cards that I have. Most of the card that i own from dragon are on the rental list. probably becaus is don't have a nice dragon summoner.

To summarize ALL dragon cards that i own are:

I like the Djinn, because that is the only strong one. I got my other summoners leveled up (a bit) so therefor dragon is almost never a choice.

Lets find us a battle where we can play dragon ...

Strategy

Equal Oppertunity
All Monsters have the Opportunity ability.

Speed and HP is the trick here: higher speed will let you target enemy's low HP monster first, opening the way for your slower monsters to deal damage to higher HP enemy monsters. Keep lower HP monsters in front. Monsters who have two attack types should always be preferred.
Odds one out
Only Monsters with odd Mana costs may be used in battles.

There are no special tricks for this ruleset, but having an idea of mana points of a few monsters helps in predicting what your opponent can and cannot use.

This is the first game i found i could play dragon :). for the 99 mana i would not have choosen dragon especially because with water in this case is would have +1 shield and +1 speed. much better. Because the earth splinter is not possible my gamble is that the will be no magic play in this battle.

The Setup:

Summoner

CardReason
I don't own any other dragon summoner so Drake plan here to get much shield protection. Even placing myself in a disadvantage because with the dragon summoner i only got play the lvl 1 of each monster :(

Monsters

Serpent of Eld (lvl 1):
The serpent has a nice speed with good amount of damage (often play him in as tank). with he extra dodge in combination with the Disintegrator I hope here on alot of misses.

Disintegrator (lvl 1):
I assume a melee (or ranged battle) so when it is an melee battle all have one less damage

Venari Wavesmith (lvl 1):
Simple for the extra shields want to play with high number of shields in combination with Drake of Arnak

Merdaali Guardian (lvl 1):
Easy to heal the front and keep them as long a possible alive

Spirit Hoader:
To heal the back line. I often try to sneak in this monster to protect the backline

Sand Worm (lvl 1):
Heavy hitter, also like to play him together with Tarsa because of the +1 melee damage. But in this game to protect the back-line healer.

Rounds:

Start :
I was wandering why i choose dragon again I only selected water or neutral monsters. Not sure about the outcome of this battle because of the opportunity of all monster so strategy of protect front and back-line with healers can backfire becuase the healers will be targeted first, after the venari wavesmith.

Also nice choice of my opponent the fire elemental, combination blast with opportunity can do 2 extra damage one in front and one in the back of the monster it is attacking.

image.png
Round 1:
Nice to see my hoarder also healed up the venari wavesmith i toughed it only healed in the back. Lucky their blast monster is gone, this has done 2 extra damage as expected. But also becaus of its health the first target. So shield up seems to help for now. Also one miss on the serpent +1.

image.png
Round 2:
The healers are really doing good work keeping monster alive. Unfortunately my vanari wavesmith is gone therefor my extra shields are down.

image.png
Round 3:
Because of the attack order my healer has done nothing. But still one healer left. Assume my serpent will get more misses because of the speed different and the dodge. so looking good. Only down side is that probably next round my healer is death.

image.png
Round 4:
Nice to see my healer could heal himself, bit of luck in the order of monster attacking. Would the Disintegrator have hit first my spirit hoarder would have been killed. Now it is looks like it is a win for me.

image.png
Round 5:
Hoped on a miss, but my serpent of elp is dead. Still in favor here, only my Disintegrator will do no damage to lava monster.

image.png
Round 6:
No changes on the battle field, next round it is over

image.png
Round 7:
My spirit hoarder could heal himself again and kill the lava monster. Then the sand worm could finish Disintegrator.
Nice win.

Conclusion

Strategy worked! Nicely to see the healers in action also when there is no back-line to heal the triage also heals the front (TIL).

Tanks all for reading till next week.

Cool write up. You should definitely look more into the dragon splinter. It's super powerful and will give you an edge in tournaments.
Cheers

I went for Quix because of price point and he is really good.
Then I upgraded these cards to silver level : Naga Brute - gets Thorns, Naga Assassin - gets Backfire, Manticore - Reach (I got only lvl 1 because of price), Djinn Chwala - Thorns, Chaos Dragon - gets Blast, Dessert Dragon - gets piercing and Void dragon. These are very strong cards even if you can not afford to upgrade them much. After this the Dragon cards starts getting very expensive. The Vigilator is on my list. Double hit with range and melee - in opportunity, or Melee Mayhem etc, he is insane. Dragon Jumper is awesome as well but they start to cost quite a bit. In tournaments having a couple of these cards will make you stand out.
Good luck
