spl-stats: Boom!!! Combine Cards Has Arrived

Welcome back everyone!

Boom!!! Another release has landed on https://spl-stats.com.

With the recent updates around buying cards for a specific bracket and leveling cards to a target level, there was one thing still missing... actually combining those cards without leaving the tool.

image.png

At first I thought this would be a quick feature. Add a button, call the transaction, and done... yeah... that turned into quite the adventure. 😅

There are actually a surprising number of reasons why Splinterlands won't let you combine cards. Cards can be on a wagon, delegated, part of a land set, already max level, or simply not have enough BCX available. Even on the official site it can sometimes be difficult to understand why combining isn't possible.

So I tried to improve that experience.

The goal of this release is not just to let you combine cards, but also to clearly explain why you can or cannot combine them and what is blocking you.

As always, despite plenty of testing, there will probably be edge cases I haven't found yet. If you run into anything strange, please let me know. Every report helps make the tool better for everyone.

One small disclaimer though. Always verify the transactions before signing them with Hive Keychain. You remain responsible for every transaction you approve. I will always do my best to fix bugs and help investigate issues, but Splinterlands can also change things on their side without me noticing. If you notice something behaving differently, let me know so I can update the tool as quickly as possible.

Like most features on spl-stats, this started because it solved a problem I personally had while managing my own collection. Hopefully it saves you some time as well.

Building these tools takes a lot of time and also infra cost.

Combine Cards Directly From SPL Stats

The biggest addition in this release is the new Combine Cards feature.

Wherever it makes sense, you can now combine your cards directly from spl-stats.com without having to switch back to the official Splinterlands interface.

When opening the combine dialog you'll immediately see:

  • Your current card level and the selected target level.
  • A preview of the upgraded card.
  • New abilities that unlock at higher levels.
  • Which levels are currently reachable.
  • Clear reasons when a level cannot be combined.
  • Live transaction progress after broadcasting.

The level selector uses simple color coding to make things easy to understand.

ColorMeaning
BlueThis level can be combined immediately.
OrangeA required card is currently on a wagon or in set or to much delegated out.
DisabledNot enough BCX available to reach this level.

During the transaction you'll also see the broadcast status followed by automatic verification once the transaction has been confirmed.

Smarter Combine Buttons

Instead of simply enabling or disabling the combine button, the tool now explains exactly why combining is not possible.

Possible blocking reasons include:

  • Card already at maximum level.
  • Not enough copies available.
  • One or more cards are currently assigned to a land set.
  • One or more cards are on a wagon.
  • Required cards are delegated out.

This should make troubleshooting much easier than simply wondering why a button is disabled.

Find Upgradeable Cards Faster

If your collection is getting large, finding cards that can actually be upgraded becomes difficult.

To help with that, I added a new Upgradeable Cards filter.

Enable it and the table immediately hides every card that cannot currently be combined, leaving only the cards that are ready for an upgrade.

Buy Missing CC Improvements

While working on this feature I also made several improvements to the Buy Missing CC page.

The table now contains two separate price columns:

ColumnDescription
1 CC $Lowest price for buying a single copy.
Price CC $Lowest price per BCX.

Both columns can be sorted independently, making it much easier to compare purchase options depending on whether you're buying single cards or larger BCX listings.

I also cleaned up several parts of the transaction progress panel to provide clearer feedback while purchases and combines are being processed.

If you do not know what the columns mean (very understandable hover over them). If still not clear ask me... i might even improve the naming if its confusing.

Final Thoughts

This feature ended up being much larger (complexer) than I originally expected, but I'm really happy with the result.

I think being able to buy missing copies, level your cards, and now also combine them from the same workflow makes the whole collection management experience much smoother.

As always, this project is built because I need these tools myself, and hopefully they make managing your collection easier too.

If you find bugs, have suggestions, or think something could be improved, let me know. Your feedback has shaped many of the features already on the site, and it continues to make spl-stats better with every release.

Happy combining, Beaker signing off ⚔️
