Splinterlands Statistics Update: Live DEC Pricing & Marketplace QOL Fixes

avatar

Hi Splinterfam,

A smaller update this week!

Most of my development time went into the latest Land Manager update, but I still managed to squeeze in a couple of improvements for the main Splinterlands Statistics site.

Nothing huge this time, but especially the DEC pricing change is an important one. There are also a few nice quality of life fixes for browsing cards and using the marketplace.

Live DEC Pricing

I recently noticed that DEC prices on my marketplace sometimes differed from what you would see on sites like PeakMonsters or Splinterlands itself.

After digging into it, I found the reason.

The marketplace API returns a DEC value based on a smoothed DEC price. That is useful for some things, but not ideal when you actually want to know how much DEC a listing costs right now.

So I changed how the marketplace handles DEC payments.

Instead of trusting the DEC amount returned by the listing API, Splinterlands Statistics now takes the listing's USD price and converts it using the current live DEC/USD rate.

This also means marketplace listings are now consistently selected based on their USD price first. After that, the required payment amount is calculated in DEC or CREDITS.

The buy dialog has also been updated so you can see:

  • The total USD value
  • The live DEC rate being used
  • The resulting DEC amount

If for some reason a valid live DEC rate is unavailable, DEC purchases will be disabled instead of potentially showing you an incorrect amount.

Important: Splinterlands is still the backend actually processing the transaction. The final DEC amount spent is ultimately determined there. The goal of this update is to make the amount shown on Splinterlands Statistics as accurate and transparent as possible before you make the purchase.

Better Card Search

The second improvement came from feedback provided by @llobre93.

He mentioned that the card search wasn't very intuitive, and I agreed.

Previously the search only displayed the top five cards. There was also no scrollbar, so unless you already knew that you needed to start typing to find a specific card, it could easily look like those five cards were your only options.

Not exactly the best user experience 😅

This has now been changed.

The card search can display up to 50 results in a scrollable list. As soon as you start typing, that list is filtered down to matching cards.

Not a difficult feature to build, but definitely a nice quality of life improvement.

Thanks for the feedback!

Card Grid & Infinite Scrolling Fixes

While working on the card browsing experience, I also fixed several issues with the infinite scrolling card grid.

In some situations, especially when multiple accounts were selected, the grid could stop loading additional cards too early.

The loading behavior has now been improved so that additional cards continue loading correctly while the scroll trigger remains visible.

I also increased the preload distance. This means the next batch of cards should start loading a little earlier as you scroll, making browsing feel smoother.

Another annoying issue was related to market price updates. If you had already scrolled through several batches of cards and a market price update happened, the grid could suddenly reset back to the first batch.

That should no longer happen.

Top Balances Fix

One smaller bug also made it into this release.

Top Balances were not appearing correctly on certain tabs, including the Land Marketplace.

This has now been fixed, so the balances should once again be available where expected.

Complete Changelog

Changed

  • Marketplace DEC prices now use the live DEC/USD rate.
  • DEC purchase amounts are calculated from the listing's USD price using the live DEC rate instead of the smoothed DEC value returned by the listing API.
  • Marketplace listing selection is now consistently based on USD, with payment amounts converted to DEC or CREDITS afterward.
  • DEC purchases are disabled when a valid live DEC rate is unavailable.
  • The buy dialog now displays the USD total and applied DEC rate.

Fixed

  • Fixed Top Balances not appearing on certain tabs, including the Land Marketplace.
  • Card search now shows up to 50 results in a scrollable list instead of silently limiting the results to five.
  • Fixed card grid infinite scrolling stopping prematurely, particularly when multiple accounts are selected.
  • Improved loading behavior while the scroll trigger remains visible.
  • Increased the preload distance so additional cards load sooner.
  • Fixed market price updates resetting an already scrolled card grid back to the first batch.

Closing

That's it for this week's Splinterlands Statistics update.

A smaller release compared to some of the recent ones, mainly because Land Manager stole most of my development time 😄

Still, accurate DEC pricing and smoother card browsing are exactly the kind of improvements that make the site a little nicer to use every day.

As always, thanks to everyone reporting bugs, sharing ideas, and giving feedback. Keep it coming!

See you in the next update, Splinterfam! ❤️
