It's a kind of magic.

Prologue

I did it. Twice. I pulled the trigger on a magical plot - thanks to one of my favorite land-trading partners, @keeegs. He helped me consolidate the biggest chunk of my plots in one region - while only 3 of the plots where in the region he needed, #23 Baxdon. We also traded many, many Verico cards before. A cool dude he is!

So, he delivered me a beautiful Tundra-Magical-Plot with a Research Hut already built! For a very fair price, given that it's Tundra (3 terrain bonus, Water, Life, Earth), and the structure standing. And in my region.

Now, why twice? Because I also bought Lumina Lightweaver. I mean, come on, 100% of the income donated to an awesome cause and I get a nice little card for that? Count me in! For now, I have the magical plot running unter 20k PP anyway, since I don't have the cards I want yet. But I'll buy them. Preferably Common, Rare or Epic Regular Foils, Beta Set, Maxed - if you have any for sale, let me know!

The Maths

Now, what do I need to run a magical plot? Of course, I bought before doing the math. I remember a friend and Kaiser in terms of landownership tell me - Makes no sense before you have 20 plots. Or 50. At least way more than I own.

Okay, I own 21, but 6 of those are cooperative plots which I convert entirely into DEC to pay-out my co-owner and get instant returns (Briarwood). So, here I am checking if I can supply enough with what I have, or how much PP I could sustain with the production in #66, Nav'stok (btw, how awesome is being in 66, like route 66... though the teenager in me would prefer #69).

What does a magical plot consume?

0.01 Grain
0.005 Wood
0.002 Stone
0.0005 Iron

That looks somewhat familiar... What was the production per PP for resources again?

0.02 Grain
0.005 Wood
0.002 Stone
0.0005 Iron

What a coincidence!

So, the theory would be: for each PP of Research, you need 1 PP Wood, 1 PP Stone, 1 PP Iron, which each need 0.5 PP grain, so 1.5 PP Grain, plus the 0.5 PP Grain for research, makes 5 PP for 1 PP of Research. 4 to 1. Not that simple, though... There's the 10% tax of each (so it's 5.5 for each 0.9!), conversion rates, and so on...

The importance of a single region

Or knowing how to play the pools. Having all the plots in a single region makes life so much easier. No swap fees, no transfer fees. Taxes, that's it.

Think positive, dude! Meaning, produce more than you need. This is how my plots look now. Research is a bit low, I admit, as I haven't bought the cards I want, yet. I could have double the Research productivity, and it would still be covered by the production in the region.

image.png

As you can see, the grain cost is at only 111/hour, thanks to the coolest card so far.

But even at 122, I could still double the PP on research and be square on grain. And Iron, which would be the next bottle neck.

Scalable

There's always a way to increase PP on every plot - getting higher CPC cards. All Chaos Legion? Untamed will bring you more production. And then Beta. And then Alpha. If I come into the position of needing more Iron, I don't have to buy a new plot in my region, I just gradually upgrade my cards.

And then there's totems. With current prices, a 50k PP plot gets you back your investment of a common totem within 324 (grain) to 543 (iron) days. Reminds me...

Money where mouth and such. I still have plots without totems. Including my magical. That shall change... let's see what happens!

The beauty of boosts - productivity goes up, but cost doesn't.

Conclusion

Aaaah, the magic. I can feel it. The Aura Lab is only 153 days away. I can already taste the victory!

Of course, I'll accelerate that. By strategic buys of worthy cards, I'll expand the Research production, as well as the rest of resources, keeping it all leveled - just to make sure that I can make it happen with only 15 viable plots. It's all in the detailed planning and calculations. Theoretically, you could make it happen with 5 plots - Grain, Wood, Stone, Iron, Magic. Just allocate your cards correctly, get the right ones, and everything is possible.

Okay, theoretically, you could do it with only 2 plots - one high-value resource (grain at the moment) with 7x the PP of the second one, the research center. 7x should cover all the swap fees... Much more work, though! But no, you don't have to own the right plots - just the right cards. Strategy and deep understanding is everything.

And that's why land is so awesome. And it's just getting started! Now, with two plots you can create magic - see what comes next!
