Yodin Zaku vs. Lir Deepwater

It's a classic Matchup between Fire and Ice. Yheonhee going with the flaming Fire Deck and on the other side Quines selected the tidal forces of the Water Deck. Yodin Zaku is the fire summoner that has the ability to give all friendly monsters the blast ability, along with plus one health and plus one ranged damage. On the opposing team is Lir Deepwater that has the ability to give all allied monsters the return fire ability on top of adding 2 armor to all friendlies and giving a debuff to all enemy monsters with the blind effect. It is a 39 mana cap battle with the Standard ruleset meaning no modifications apply. Time to see the lineup in this elemental showdown.

The Lineup

Motlen Ash Golem is the first position monster for Fire team which has the close range ability allowing it to attack from the first position even if it is a ranged monster. Ant Miners is the second choice and with the scavenger ability will allow it to gain one health for every monster that dies. Blood Maker is a ranged hero that has the scattershot ability where all ranged and magic attacks can hit a random enemy. Ferexia General if fourth in the lineup that has the snipe ability allowing it to target ranged, magic, or no attack monsters not in the first position. Mantoid is fifth on the lineup which also has the snipe ability. Spark Pixies is a high speed and the last position card that has the flying ability giving it an extra 25% chance to evade physical attacks. This is a heavy damage ranged focused lineup and with the blast ability from Yodin Zaku will wreak havoc to opposing teams.

For the Water team, Diemonshark is the first position tank, it has the Trample Ability that allows it to attack again whenever it kills an enemy monster. Venator Kinjo is second position off tank which has the reflection shield ability which makes it immune to blast, magic reflect, thorns and Return Fire. Flying Squid is the third choice and has the reach ability, this card can attack from the second position despite it being a melee monster. Demented Shark is the fourth card which has the buff inspite to give all allied heroes +1 melee attack. Deeplurker is positioned on the backlines and has the Opportunity ability allowing it to target the lowest health monsters currently in play. Pelacor Bandit completes the water lineup with the sneak ability allowing it to target last position cards on top of its flying ability which allows it to evade by another 25% physical attacks. This roster stands to deal heavy melee damage from all positions while maintaing some defense with the armor buff from Lir Deepwater.

Round 1

The Spark Pixies is the first one to attack. And unfortunately also the first one to leave the match. It has dealt good damage to the diemonshark, and no damage to the Venator Kinjo. But because of the return fire ability, the Diemonshark performed a counter attack on the Spark Pixies quickly killing it off in one blow.

Yodin Zaku and the fire team suffered another loss. And this time the casualty is the blood maker. While it was able to attack pelacor bandit. The pelacor bandit returned fire and has reduced the health. And because of the blast damage also triggered return fire responses from the other monsters of the lineup. With the Demented Sharks turn to attack it was all over for the bloodmaker. Also important to note here is that the fire lineup is quickly losing health due to counter attacks from the return fire buff of Lir Deepwater. While the water deck is still doing pretty good with most of the damage dealt being absorbed by the armor.

Round 2

Early in the second round, the water team keeps its strong offense and this time removing the mantoid from play courtesy of the attack from the pelacor bandit. These return fires up against a lineup that has the blast ability has been completely and devastatingly countered.
image.png

The Ferexia General dished out an attack to the diemonshark, and while it was able to connect also with its blast damage, the return fires have triggered the counterattacks. And it goes down by consecutive return attacks from the Diemonshark and Venator Kinjo. Blue team is on a roll and it's looking very grim for the Fire lineup now only left with 2 monsters against a full lineup.

The Water deck continues its offensive this time destroying the Molten Ash Golem from an attack from the Deeplurker. Only the Ant Miners remain and with little attack power I don't see the fire team even removing one water monster from play.

Round 3

The barrage of attack continues with the deeplurker again dealing the final blow to the ant miners. It was a flawless victory for the water deck which did not lose any monster in its lineup at all. The choice of summoner Lir Deepwater has been a perfect counter against Yodin Zaku and team. The return fire ability alone was more than enough to dish out extra damages in between turns. It has been an uphill battle from the start victory has been certain from the beginning of the match for blue.

There's been a good show of cards and monster selections in this match. But in the end there can only be one winner. Well except for draws witch happens at times. Employing the right strategy was key to victory. The choice of summoner from the very beginning could already spell win or disaster even before the match starts. Great game well played.
