Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!

Today we review one of the battles I've recently played. I'm always deeply interested in mirror matches. For this in particular its a head to head match up against both earth splinters.

Earth VS Earth

Green vs Green. Obsidian vs Obsidian. It's a max mana cost battle at 99 with the armor up ruleset which gives additional 2 armor for all monsters at the beginning of the match. This armor buff stacks on top of monster's current armor stat. Let's see who will win.

It wasn't surprising at all for my enemy to choose Obsidian ((this summoner boosts magic damage by 1) and opt for an earth deck . Due to the battle's ruleset of armored up. Magic attacks are the go to option when it comes to strategizing as we all know that magic attacks ignores enemy armor. I actually did the same lol.

The Summons

With 9 mana cost I am free to use the highest costing monsters available in my deck. My lineup is comprised of Unicorn Mustang, that has the void ability which would reduce incoming magic damage, the Disintegrator with the demoralize ability will reduce all melee damage of enemy monsters, Mycelic Slipspawn will be my mid position tank using its taunt ability will direct all attacks towards this monster, Regal Peryton a magic damage monster that with high speed and flying ability can easily evade attacks from monsters with no flying ability, Goblin Psychic has the tank heal which is a great support spell as it restores health the my first position tank, completing my backline is the Goblin Tower that has the blast ability and will also deal damage to adjacent enemy summons.

As expected my opponent's lineup will be quite similar to my selection with 4 of our 6 cards being the same. He selected Unicorn Mustang same as his first position tank, Mycelic Slipspawn as the off tank, Regal Peryton as another magic damage dealer, Suidae Shaman is a card i don't see regularly but it is very powerful with its ability called recharge. This Suidae Shaman attacks every other round but deals 3x damage, Goblin Psychich is also his selected support card it's great that he has the gold edition as this has more value in the market, finally on his lineup is the melee monster Grund which attacks twice per round due to it's double strike skil.

Round 1

First to be applied are the buffs from the armored up rule as well as the magic damage increase supplied by both Obsidian Summoners. The debuff from Disintegrator's demoralize also comes into effect in the opening turns or the first round. By the end of the round, we could see both unicorn mustangs have already lost armor however my tank has a slight advantage in health. Notable in this round is that the Suidae Shaman did not attack yet. While my goblin tower managed to dish out damage to 3 enemy monsters from hitting the mycelic slipspawn. The enemy grund is not able to attack this round as it does not have the sneak ability rendering it useless. Most damage dealt in this round was absorbed by both Mycelic Slipspawns and both enters the next round at low health.

Round 2

Mirror matches results into mirrored moves. The Regal Peryton of both lineups were first to attack. Resulting in the elimination of mycelic splipsawns from both sides.
image.png

By the end of the second round, the opposing regal peryton has already lost armor due to the blast damaged received from my goblin tower. However the Suidae Shaman already made its moved connecting an attack to my unicorn mustang. It dealt huge damage but luckily my tank was able to reduce damage and was also healed by the goblin psychic and it still remains in contention. The grund continues to be a non factor in this match.

Round 3

Seventh turn of the third round is pivotal for me. The suidae shaman is charging this round and will not be attacking. And because I have the first move, even if my unicorn mustang was 1 hit away from death. The goblin psychich comes in with clutch heals and at the same time attacking the opponent's tank removing it from play. The regal peryton of my opponent goes into the first position.
image.png
Ending the third round and by the tenth turn, My unicorn mustang is at low health. But I am still up by 5 summons vs 4. Unluckily, the attack of the goblin tower was evaded and it did not deal any damage this round.
image.png

Round 4

It's a critical round. Now that the Suidae Shaman has finished recharging, It would be attacking my unicorn mustang and it's high damage sent my tank to the graveyard. My Disintegrator now moves into first position. One thing I have going is that the opponents Regal Peryton is down to just 1 health.
image.png
Right after I lost my unicorn mustang tank, I was able to dish out damage from the goblin psychic and it eliminated the regal peryton from this matchup.
image.png

The goblin tower sent out attacks that removed the enemy armor of the suidae shaman. My disintegrator also helped in dealing out damage to the now first position monster. However at the same time it also took magic damage from the goblin psychic and was reduced to just 2 health. I still have 1 piece advantage in monster count entering the next round.

Round 5

A huge kill for my lineup in the fourth turn, Luckily for me the Suiade Shaman is still recharging and will not be attacking this round. This created an opening for my regal peryton and goblin psychic to deal enough damage to remove it from play. The goblin psychic wil be moving into the first position followed by the Grund which still up to this point is a non factor.

image.png
Round 5 ended on the ninth turn with the goblin psychic left with just 1 hp after getting attacked by both the disintegrator and the goblin tower. Good thing is that the blast damaged also dealt armor reduction for the grand. I am now having a pretty good lead heading into the 6th round.
image.png

Round 6

Opening the sixth round, my regal peryton is first to attack due to it having the highest speed in all the monsters remaining. This made quick work of the goblin psychic removing it from play. The final summon that needs to be eliminated is the Grund which at this stage is still at full hp. It can cause problems as it has the double strike ability and can dish out damage quickly.

image.png

The demoralize debuff proved to be very effective for the grund as it has reduced damage and was only able to remove the disintegrator armor even after attacking twice. The goblin Psychic continuing to do its job restored additional health to my tank as well. Together with dealing damage the only enemy monster is left at 7hp. The low speed of the goblin tower caused it's attack to miss again and was not able to deal any damage.
image.png

Round 7

The regal peryton was first to attack dealing 2 damage. The disintegrator after receiving 2 consecutive attacks was removed from play. I have a pretty comfortable lead now.
image.png
Dealing the final blows for this match is the goblin psychic and goblin tower whose attack finally connected. Securing me this victory.
