Iltain vs Ilthain

This is a modern ranked battle with the standard ruleset meaning no modifications will be applied on this game. It is a 31 mana cap battle with with all elements active except for water. Both champions selected to go for the Summoner Ilthain, it gives the buff return fire which allows hit monsters to retaliate when attacked. This summoner also gives a buff of plus one speed to all friendly monsters.

The Roster

Our first team has the Drybone Barbarian as their tank, a strong melee monster with the enrage ability allowing it to to gain 50% bonus damage and speed when not in full health. Truthspeaker is a support card that gives all allies 2 armor thru its protect ability. Scavo Hireling is another support card that fixes the armor of those whose taken the most damage. Dumacke Exile, Stitch Leech and Uraeus all have the sneak ability which will target the last position monsters. Roguex is employing a backline attacking strategy which is armor supported.

On the flip side, second team has the first position Shieldbreaker, with its taunt ability will allow it to provoke all enemy monsters to target it. Venator Kinjo is the off tank with the reflect shield ability and camouflage preventing it from being directly targeted not unless it is in the first position. Similar to team 1, Stitch Leech, Dumacke Exile and Uraeus are sneak monsters which will deal damage on the backlines. Cave Slug completes the lineup as the final card with the opportunity ability. The teams strategy is similar to that of team one when it comes to dealing damage, for defense it will rely heavily on the shieldbreaker to soak up most of the attacks dealt.

Round 1

Team one suffered the first casualty in this match. Thei Uraeus fell from consecutive backline attacks from Dumacke Exile, Stitch Leech and Uraeus with the Cave Slug dealing the final blow. This barrage of attacks proved to be too much for this low health monster even after the armor buff from truthspeaker and scavo hireling even managed to repair its broken armor. However, it is still a long fight to go. The shieldbreaker is down to its last 5 health.

While Team 1 might have lost a monster, the first round ended I would say still even. The tank of team 2 is down to 3 health and once he falls, it will open up the many from their lineup can easily fall due to lack of armor protection.

Round 2

Unexpectedly, the Shieldbreaker falls in the opening turn of the second round with Dumacke Exile's swift attack. The monster count is even, and this could be a pivotal round. Team 1 excels in armor and support but only has 3 offensive monsters. While team 2 has 5 monsters that's capable of attacking.

Second team scores another kill by eliminating the stich leech of team 1. The first team only has 2 attacking monster left, but still holds the strongest card on play which is the Drybone Barbarian. Will there be enough gas left in the tank for team 1 who is down one monster.

Drybone Barbarian, equalizes the round by sending the Venator Kinjo into the graveyard. Both teams are down to 4 monsters.
image.png

Just before the round ended, An attack from the cave slug. Melts down the scavo hireling. This is a huge deal given that it has constantly provided core support and is an integral part of team 1's strategy.

Round 3

Team 1 continues to fight back as the Drybone Barbarian eliminates the stitch leech with a single blow. However, their Dumacke Exile has already lost all amor and could be facing a potentially fatal strikes from the sneak attacks of team 2. The caveslug is down to two health and with the stitch leech going down, this could be a good thing for team 1 as the dumacke exile will focus attacking the front lines from the first position.

Round 4

The last turn of the previous round seems to be a wasted attack as the cave slug attacked the truth speaker with all damage being absorbed by its armor. It appears that team one now has the upper hand as the first turn of round 4 saw Dumacke Exile killing off the cave slug. There's 2 attacking monsters left on both side. However, team 1 has the more powerful lineup it seems.

Round 4 ended and at this point it is still to close to call. Drybone Barbarian's attack did not connect. While the Dumacke Exile of team one with no armor left is exposed to attacks from the Uraeus which still has armor.
image.png

Round 5

The second team's Dumacke Exile, connected an attack on the Drybone Barbarian. And since it lost health, it went to enrage mode. Now having 8 attack with 5 speed. Both front and back position cards are in danger of falling quickly.
image.png

Round 5 ends with still the same monster count. However, with the Dumacke Exile surviving, and a buffed up Drybone, it appears to me that first team has the upper hand.
image.png

Round 6

Opening the round is Dumacke Exile with a killing strike on the Uraeus. It is 3 to 1 and I think we have a clear winner at this point.
image.png

And with an insanely high damage of 8, the drybone Barbarian draws the battle to a close.

GGWP. Not all matches can be won by going on a full offensive lineup. Having that good mix of defense and support to go along with a well synergized selection of cards even when damage is compromised can still cause a convincing victory.
