Splinterlands Art Contest Week 261!

Lady Mushroom Seer

Welcome once again to another featured digital artwork, and my entry for this week's Splinterlands Art Contest. This time I present a reimagination of the Mushroom Seer turning it from a one eyed creature into a ladylike construct.

A Rare Earth Unit

The concept of this art is inspired by the mushroom seer. It is a magic damage dealing monster from the Earth deck and at max levels will have 3 magic damage, 3 speed and 6 health with zero armor. Right off the bat, it already has the silence ability which reduces all magic damage coming from enemy monsters by 1. And from Level 6 this card gains the poison ability which has a 50% chance to apply poison status to the enemy it hits. Poisoned monsters take damage at the beginning of each round.

Lore
The hidden Mushroom Forest at the heart of the Centauri Wood has produced many curiosities in the past, including medicines with strange and otherworldly effects. Recently, fully grown Mushroom People have emerged from this forest. These Mushroom People spread maddening spores everywhere they go.

Let's have a look at how this art came into completion. I'll be detailing the steps on how I achieved my desired result.

  • After selecting my reference card, the first thing that I normally do is to create a circle which will serve as my guideline.
    image.png

  • Once I am done with the guidelines, I proceed to create the sketch, the lines from before help me identify the placement of facial features like the hair nose mouth and even the orientation of which side the head is facing.
    image.png

  • I continue with sketching the elements that goes into the face such as the hair and ears. I use a blue ink so that when I create the outline there will be color contrast.
    image.png

  • Now adding the sporadic mushrooms which I made to appear like it is growing from the scalp of the head.
    image.png

  • The more shrooms the better.
    image.png

  • Once the sketch has been completed, I then proceed to adding another layer. And reducing the opacity I begin to trace solid outlines from the sketch. I am no expert but this type of view makes it easy for me to view the entire composition.
    image.png

  • I added some streaks of line on the face and hair to add more depth to go into this digital illustration.
    image.png

  • Once done, I started applying base layers. This process helps me color greater portions of the canvass with lesser time.
    image.png

  • For the mushrooms I kept the colors to the original red and yellow color pattern of the mushroom seer.
    image.png

  • On this part, I started using different shades of the base colors. Some lighter, some darker. I do this to achieve that shadow and light effect and to refine the picture even more.
    image.png

  • I applied some refining and polishing to the face and eyes, blending and blurring colors to make it more synergized.
    image.png

  • And final step is to finish off with a background using bright colors of green, yellow and white to give that sort of jungle or forest backdrop.

Awesome job, speaking as someone with little to no artistic ability I find it amazing to see someone with the vision/ability to bring this to life. Bonus is that it has to do with Splinterlands! Thanks for posting, and good luck battling out there.
