My Runi Chronicles - Roster completion & Battle Tactics

One of my best Twitter accounts is Splinterlands. It keeps me informed about all the important news in the ecosystem and #Hive posting events like a media challenge. In my opinion, those challenges are an incredible way of increasing the pride of being part of this community, as every player shares his/her game experience with others, allowing others to learn about everyone's successes and mistakes. For this one, there has been a huge change in the game that affects all Runis: 3 rulesets per battle. I will share how I've decided to manage my budget to build a top Diamond deck thanks to the new Deck functionality via peak-monsters and I will also share an Epic battle where my Runi performed an astonishing performance. Hope you like it!

Budget Management Update

image.png

I consider myself a medium investor player in Splinterlands. Not all my acquisitions have gone as I would have liked but I have learned a lot doing them. On the positive side, I've got in my top 1 Lux: Lux has driven me from gold to champion. My second best investment is 2 licenses. They are helping me with 45 SPS and 8 Nodes per day, and although are worth 1k$ in the secondary market, I wanna hold them for a long time. My third best investment is Runi. This Runi will walk all my journey in #Splinterlands with me and with the 2023 development plan the best is to come. On my not-so-good investments, I've got my 1k Chaos Legion packs. I decided to buy 650 to get a guaranteed airdrop and decided to get 350 more to get Maverick status (getting access to the development web can help me in content creation in near future). But globally I regret this investment (maybe because I've been very unlucky in both pack openings and airdrops). Now I've got 350 packs pending to open and maybe I hold them for a long time...

When I told that Lux brought me to Champion, that was true, but also with a 3k DEC rental daily. This situation causes me a lot of uncertainty about prices and frustration if the cards I am searching for are not available. Thanks to the new @peak-monsters functionality I know that my DEC that I use to reach champion every season costs an additional 3k. In this first part of the post, I will explain how I decided to begin to spend this part of the budget, trying to pick the most expensive rental cards in max. In this way I made my first 5 serious purchases in the market:

My first serious purchase went for Baakjira. I love this card. 3 Rulesets expansions have increased Baakjira's uses. Her survival kit is unique in the game and makes her suitable even for Noxious or Eartquake rulesets. Her +1 Health stacks are fantastic with Lux and Merdaali giving a global +3 to my roster and this Slow debuff has given me tons of victories. Long life for Baakjira! Bought her for 80$.

image.png

Deeplurker is one of these common cards that you never understand his rarity. I am sure that this card will rule the modern format for a long time and also be wild when he jumps into this format. His toolkit is famous in the meta with opportunity, poison, and melee debuff. So simple, so devastating. He is only vulnerable to block but forms part of my bread and butter. I use him again and again. Got him for 90$.

Quix is the best Chaos Legion Summoner (except maybe by Lux), with the advantage that he can play the Little League ruleset. He can play every single summoner with the addition of Dragon cards. I use him again and again and I am so happy of having added him to my army for 210$

So many victories depend on the support/s you bring to battle. Merdali's supporting kit enables her to help either the front or back line (front with heal, and back with armor). Also with +1 health I had no doubts about adding her for 43$

image.png

Finally couldn't stand to end my first serious shopping list by adding Wavebrood. Suits fantastic with my other cards, and also has seen its increase boosted with only a ranged ruleset. Bought him joyfully for 110$.

Overall was a 550$ investment. This amount which can be huge is saving me around 600-800 DEC per day. So only rentals will have a return of 2 years. But... Land expansion 1.5 is coming, with the foreseen scarcity. So I am very happy with the first step.

My next steps

image.png

Once my rental deck is updated in Peakmonsters, took a look at my next incorporations. There a 12 interesting cards (Disintegrator -36$, Silent Sha-Vi -28$, Soul Strangler - 16$, Windeku 46$, Flying Squid 29$, Nerissa 86$, Chaos Knight 20$, Time Mage 22$, Dax Paragon 38$, Supply Runner 52$, Angelic Mandarin 25$ and Chaos Agent 65$. All for 443$ approx.

With all these creatures I hope to decrease significantly my Daily rental spending to around 1,2k - 1,5k DEC. Another important aspect is that I will have all creatures available to play and not expect a third-party market.

Runi Epic performance in Champion tier

As I usually say, I prefer the tactical part of the game. And related to this aspect I bring an Epic performance of my Runi (another one!). This one was a 27-Mana Melee Only-Thorns ruleset (One of Runis' favorite ones). The board looked as follows

image.png

  • Uriel is such a great option if you are looking for a reliable tank that will absorb tons of damage before he falls. That was my Angel performance in this battle. When you face Melee only, some annoying abilities like Afflictions or Ignoring Armor through Magic are discarded. So his reliability is increased. Also, his recharge allows him to save thorns and retaliate damage.
  • For my second position, brought Wolverine. This creature has not stopped surprising me on the battlefield. When he took Uriel's position he loaded up tons of health and was ready to rock.
  • Fiend and Reflecting made a great job taunting Opportunities and Sneaks. Giving my team a +1 Speed and a +15% absolute increase in dodging attacks (take note of the second attack from Serpentine with 8 speed to Fiend 5 Evading - those evades annoy!).
  • Finally, I bring you the best performance of my Runi ever! He relentlessly made damage and took some time taking down those annoying monkeys with repair (ignoring speed thanks to True Strike and not taking damage thanks to his reflecting shield). Then came Tenyi, and Serpentine with spectacular combinations of attacks and thorns. My Uriel was slayed by a forgotten one and then came how Runi slayed him. Best take a look. Antoid Platoon could deal with Vulguine and him but they were close.

I leave you the entire battle here

With 3 rulesets in 75% of top competitive leagues, the Splinterlands walks to a kind of game where every single card wins in importance. It has been shown in this post that conditions will be more restrictive and battles will be decided even by closer details. This was a very epic close one, that I enjoyed playing and even more analyzing for you!
