Weekly Challenge: Life Sapper

In this post I will analyze one of my best creatures for the death roster in the modern format: Life Sapper. As long as I have increased my ranking tier (finally I can say I've hit the diamond for three consecutive seasons), this creature has improved its original stats and acquired fantastic synergy with other great creatures you will find in this battle. And what's different from other posts about Life Sapper, my combat is about dragon summoner: Quix. I will share a diamond battle with tactical analysis that will illustrate this. Hope u enjoy it.

Life Sapper Stats

Death creatures and summoners are made for specific ways of understanding the game. They are not the strongest, they are not the fastest, they are not the healthiest, but when you play death creatures you have to enter into the Master of Puppets mentality. You've got TONS of debuffs and abilities in creatures that are made to take smooth and slight advantages every round. You have to change your opponent's beliefs from thinking that they are taking a secure victory because his creatures are better to holy shit, this does not look as fine as looked at the beginning of combat.
Life sapper has found his place in modern format, being able to drain enemy life from bronze to diamond level thanks to his Life leech. In Silver gets his second mana damage which turns him more powerful, 4 life for Gold levels, and Redemption for Diamond (this 1 point damage is always a headache to rivals). But what's the best of him, is just how cheap is in mana. You've got a creature that does magic damage, that gains life round by round and can tank damage by the end of the combat.

Battle plan

The battle I faced, was diamond tier, with a 25 mana budget and +2 armor to every creature. As you can see as a highlight of my battle, I planned to use Quix instead of Thaddius, the main reason is that I wanted to double rust my opponent with Weirding Warrior and Doctor Scale. Playing dragon summoner has a lot of synergy with the Death roster because he can complement other debuffs that the creatures u will pick won't have or maybe increase it, and also you will have a wider variety to choose from. In the example that follows I managed a +3 speed modifier (+1 from naga -2 from quick and windeku), -1 ranged from quix, -1 magic from elemental. Not bad considering was a 25-mana battle.

CURSED WINDEKU IS THE BREAD & BUTTER BEST MIDRANGE TANK IN MODERN FORMAT

I DO LOVE THAT BOY. He works in such multiple ways I can't imagine. In mid-range mana battles, he is the best tank in the whole modern format. Auto healing, thorns, and -1 enemy speed are always welcome. 11 health is also a great attribute to consider. Also has great dynamics with Weirding Warrior as you will see.
If you expect your opponent to play sneak tactics, place a lovely windeku in the back and enjoy frustrating his plans. Also, he does quite well papers in Noxious Fumes / Earthquakes (better in lower mana battles) thanks to his heal. When playing Windeku, my worst nightmare is Affliction, denying healing in the early round is always a loss for sure.

LIFE SAPPER THE SELF BUILT OFFTANK

Our star of the post. In low - mid-range battles, Life Sapper can become an off-tank if he's got enough time thanks to his Life Leech ability. Also, his 4th health point and his redemption will be an extra headache for your opponent in mid-range battles.

DEATH ELEMENTAL - RANGED DPS HUNTER + MAGIC DEBUFF

Death elemental is always a risky move. Being so vulnerable with just 3 health at higher ranks, there are not many magic creatures like him with snipping ability. Also, his silence debuff is a safety SBS Airbag. Finally, the weakness in his max level is a great ability for mid and low mana battles. Quix needs him a lot to get benefit from the inner Silence that Thaddius has while hunting opponent's ranges.

SCALE DOCTOR - THE PERFECT MIX OF DEBUFFING AND SUPPORTING BOSS

I am planning to write a full post about this guy. One of my best cards in-game. He has a mentality of supporting / debuffing the enemy. He is the master of armor and Triage helps in lots of situations. Also, rust often destroys enemy plans, allowing you to take objectives earlier than your opponent and granting you tons of victories.

WEIRDING WARRIOR - 2 MANA RUST

This is the cheapest mana rust in-game. Remember these words. For 2 mana 2 ranged attack with Shatter, Amplify and Rust is a craziness. A perfect complement that allows Windeku's thorns to destroy their opponents, Djinn Miurat's Magic's reflections to seriously punish his magic opponents, and Rifwing returning tons of ranged damage. One of the best epics in all CL editions. Very vulnerable to opportunity's armies, so take an eye on him because he will be hunted hard. Also, I planned double rust with the doctor because of my combat condition.

NAGA ASSASSIN - ANOTHER GREAT CHANCE FOR 2 MANA

I like optimizing every single mana point. Naga assassin is a great complement for every low mana- mid-range battle where each mana counts. For two mana, 2 ranged,5 speed, and Swiftness is a great move to consider.

Battle result

As you will see, the battle went great for me, and I think these are the main factors:

1. Complete set of debuffs for Quix: I gave my opponent as a present -1 ranged (affecting Mandarin and Igor, -1 Magic affecting Nymph, a +3 Speed modifier to my favor, -4 Armor thanks to double rust wombo combo, and -1 Enemy creatures health. Not bat for a 25 mana battle.
2. Windeku bread&butter: If you don't know what to do, place a Windeku. Such a reliable boy is a pain and causing problems even to a monster like Diemonshark supported by a Merdaali Guardian.
3. Life Sapper self-built offtank He grew from 4 Health to 8 thanks to his life leech. Enough said.
4. Wombo Combo double rust: This double combo could be done thanks to I chose dragon. Getting double rust for 7 mana was one of the keys to victory. This overall armor modifiers destroyed DiemonShark on round 1 (also supported by the amplified thorns).
