Season Rewards based on latest level and not highest are discouraging playing Splinterlands

Don't get me wrong, Splinterlands is a great blockchain game on Hive ecosystem and I play it day by day. We all know that playing the game is the king of keeping users connected and it should encourage gamers to stay in this great realm and make most of it. But as we wait for another Season End I cannot but think on the rule that the rewards are given based on the Latest Level reach and not the Highest one reached in this season as it was before. So, what effects does this rule have on the gameplay?

I have reached yesterday after some harsh fighting Diamond II and based on that I should receive 50 Reward Chests. Today I could do my usual Daily Quest to get some more rewards, but because I might fall into an inferior league I haven't played the game and wait for the season to end. This means that for about 24 hours there is no me playing the game and because of that, I am sure that it is not healthy for the game. As players play less and less in these conditions I think it has an opposite effect than the one intended - gameplay is frozen until the season end.

I think this would be a good choice to be put for Voting to the Splintershards (SPS) holders in order to give that token also the first use, besides the vouchers and game perks. We were promised governance and we need to see that power translate to the users and this would be a good first step as any. So without going into too much depth about this, I want to hear also your opinion in this regard.

Should the season rewards be given based on Highest Level or Latest Level reached during the season?

I vote for Highest Level as the previous system was, so let me hear your option in this regard.

I do miss the higher level rewards from the past as well, but I understand why they made the changes. Trying to balance the sustainability of the game while keeping everyone happy is a hard task. I'm honestly not sure how I would vote if they put this out there right now.

I think they need to revisit this, players not playing just because to hold their position is not good in any way.

Or they can just get better. :) Yeah, I don't know if there is an easy fix. I don't think the other model was sustainable for the overall value of the game.

I think highest level in better, because not everyone would easily replicate the level they've gotten to in the game quite often and throughout the season. So even if you eventually fall into a lower league, you'll get the rewards based on how farthest one came.

The highest level was more motivating and I was playing day after day without any dead times. And I think this routine has positive effects on the game as well.

Let's see what will happen when we use the highest ranking. We all know that the game has TONS of bots, what will they do? They will rent a really nice deck for just one day then rent a decent deck for sliver or even bronze for everyday rewards. This will results in a drop in the reward card price and hurt us as well.
So, maybe giving rewards base on the latest is not the best move, it's still okay for me.
BTW, I checked the rich list and...I don't think we'll have a say to the game. We can vote but it won't be even close to governance.

I think they should incentivise also non bots players to continue to play, otherwise there will be only bots active in the last season days.

I'm actually having fun fighting bots lols, cuz they use just a few decks.
But if I raise to gold or diamond for everyday battle, maybe I'll get to know your feelings better. And I believe SPL team will try to reward those who challange themselves fighting in higher leagues.

Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages but I think I favor from the highest level. However that could also mean that people could game the system using the rental markets. So what do you think about adding in a requirement that the user needs to have enough collection power to stay in that league and if at any point it drops, they league is corrected as well.

Highest at the end makes more sense otherwise people just hammer to the top right away and fall back without any risk. It's the way it used to be but mehhh. The way it is now makes more sense however with the introduction of rentals it's thrown a bit of a wrench into it all.

As a novice player I behave this way as well if I am within 20 points of the lower level and there is less than a day to recover I pause until the season ends. even though it is the difference in Bronze I and Bronze II I see no reason to risk it if I see no hope of Silver III.

I’ve had mixed feelings on the change to latest versus highest. I too don’t play any longer once I reach the particular league that I want which is diamond 2. Once I touch diamond 2, even if it’s 3 days before the season ends I stop playing because of how brutal the competition is lately. It’s not worth the frustration to keep playing and losing!

I think it would be good to test the SPS voting on this but with the massive weight of some of the whales I’m not sure it would work out in the end. They are more concerned with their investment than playability. I don’t think it’s worth their investment to do that.
