Splinterlands - Rebellion packs burning is nicely eating from the supply

avatar

Rebellion, Rebellion, Rebellion...the new edition cards hit the market and after a successful presale of more than 80% of the 500k packs available, the General sale is under way. Things are moving along according to the plan and each day packs are either sold or burned. Solid mechanism to keep the supply sized correctly to the market conditions and avoid the harm of overprinting that happened with Chaos Legion packs. This should only strengthen and ensure that the value of Rebellion edition will hold steady in time. And the burning is already making positive effects and we can see how it eats from the supply.

Rebellion tokenomics

At the moment of writing this article the Total Supply of Rebellion packs stands at 9,420,627, from which 208,379 are in circulation (2.1%), 377,994 are opened (3.7%) and 60,800 are already burned (0.6%). The burning amount reflects the market conditions and the fact that Splinterlands players can assimilate only so much from the supply. Instead of cutting the value with packs thrown all over the place, the new burning mechanism helps to size the market over a long period of time as burning happens on a daily basis from the quota of the cards available for sale. What that means? Well, from the daily quota of 25k packs per day (I hope the number is right), what doesn't sell is burned. And I believe that for now we are burning around 20k packs per day, which shows that without it we would simply devalue them at each step.

Burning mechanism

The burning mechanism will have effects over time and it helps size the cards assets to the appetite of the players. And what is great about it, is that in case a full bulk market comes out way and new players will join the party, we might even see an increase of Rebellion packs and cards on the second market. And this can only benefit us all. The players will be able to take some good profits and probably reinvest some of that in the game itself, while Splinterlands will capture more DEC from the fees. Win-win!

While I hold a big bag of Chaos Legion packs where I am in the red big with the price hovering at $1, I can see from the sidelines the benefits of the burning mechanism for Rebellion. And with its implementation, it proves the willingness of the game founders to put the stability of tokenomics ahead of fast gains and maybe even peril on the long run. We need more such mechanics in order to ensure the continuance of this amazing project that we all know is more than a game.

Will you rise with the Rebellion?

If not, you still have a chance on it, come and join Splinterlands!
