Splinterlands - Rebellion tokenomics are holding strong

In Splinterlands the Rebellion edition set came with some new mechanics that I believe are strengthening the entire ecosystem and keep the assets value to hold strong. I remember the hurt of Chaos Legion packs devaluing so much due to the high supply and I am glad that is not repeating also on the Rebellion packs. In my opinion the secret is in the supply which is ensured at steady levels through a burning mechanism implemented on a daily basis as portion of the unsold cards for the day. This way the effect doesn't wait to be seen and better strategies can be done using the packs and cards assets. And as one dimension of the game is strengthening, so are the others through a domino effect.

Lower Rebellion packs supply

Rebellion has a lower supply through the implementation of a daily burning mechanism that wipes up the unsold packs up to 25,000 packs a day. What it remains unsold from that is burned and the supply is reflecting that as we move along with the General sale. This creates scarcity and while we are yet in the incipient sale phases of Rebellion, that's much powerful as there are lower cards to help players to max out collection of cards. If we take a look at the current stats we can see the following values:

• 9,273,962 available (92.7%)
• 294,248 circulating (2.9%)
• 431,790 open (4.3%)
• 168,196 burned (1.7%)

And if we consider that now cards have more use cases with the launch of Land 1.5 and that this trend will continue, I can only imagine that the burning mechanism alongside with a slowly increasing demand for cards to max out will only drive the value and price to appreciate. And who knows, maybe this trend will help also the other Edition cards to appreciate and I cross my fingers for Chaos Legion as I have a big chunk of packs in my holdings.

Better Rebellion packs prices on second market

Steady and even scarce supply until a certain point, means also better prices for Rebellion packs on second market. Those packs do not bring the bonuses of Promotion cards, but surely can help anytime to level up cards and make use of them either in fights or staked on the land.

Looking at some stats we can see that while in the Splinterlands market we have for 1 Rebellion pack a price of $4.06, on the second market on Hive-Engine we pay for that 3.95$. That translates in only 0.027% price decrease and it totally makes sense as those cards do not offer any chance for Promotion cards. And as it came up how Promo cards are now airdropped, I must say that there is a new system which also helps to keep the packs and cards available in the game at lower levels. Let's see what that's all about.

Airdrop conflicts keep Rebellion out of the market

With Rebellion, there is a new airdrop system put in place, known as "Conflicts", that requires players to stake unopened Rebellion booster packs, or Rebellion cards, in order to participate in the ongoing war to fight the Chaos Legion. As a result of it the Rebellion stakers can earn the new, powerful airdrop cards as a reward in proportion to the amount of packs and/or cards that each player contributes over the duration of the Conflict. This helps by ensuring that not all the bought Rebellion packs will hit the market, which is just another great mechanics put in the game.

I must confess that I am quite excited about all these new mechanics put in place that are already proven themselves by showcasing that Rebellion tokenomics are holding strong and the value is preserved. Not only that but if things keep like this and if the crypto market is appreciating, we might see Rebellion capturing more value. In this context I wouldn't say no to a $10 price for the Rebellion edition on the long term, once the Sale is completed and there is demand while a lower supply. And who knows, maybe this will send a wave for all the Edition cards out in the game. One (like me) can only hope...
