SPS players' DAO proposals is the next kryptonite in the Splinterlands

(Edited)

Just a few days ago I was writing that in Splinterlands the user's DAO proposals are a long waited feature and I was counting the days until that will finally be implemented and give a real voice for community members to govern the SPS vault use. Without such a feature I think that the entire SPS governance system is doomed to fail, so I am quite hopeful about what the SPS player DAO proposals enabling will bring to the Splinterlands ecosystem. There might be challenging proposals, some even with extreme actions or for pure profit purposes, but in a truly democratic system this is the way to do it, and the majority to decide.

Splinterlands just published the SPS Governance - Community Proposals v1 which brings community proposals to the table and allows any SPS holder to push a motion on how SPS funds from the vault can be used and purposed. There are some conditions to it in order not to spam the system with trashy proposals, but these look pretty fair in my opinion so far.

  • Transfer 100,000 (100k) DEC tokens as a proposal fee - This translates into a $60.24 at the current market price for DEC which is pretty decent, but the beauty of it is that it is an additional case to burn DEC.
  • Publish a post on the Hive blockchain detailing the proposal - Increases transparency and details the scope, a must-be.
  • Tag the post with #spsproposal - No comment here, all good in order to identify the proposal(s) at any point in time.
  • Stakeholders can upvote the post if they support the proposal or downvote the post if they do not support the proposal - Simple system in order to get this functionality in motion, while it is developed within the current Splinterlands SPS Governance UI. As a bonus upvoting the post will bring the creator also some healthy Hive payouts which can surely alleviate any fees.
  • After 7 days, the Splinterlands team will calculate the total staked SPS held by all users who upvoted the proposal post and all users who downvoted the proposal post. If at least 5% of the total staked SPS in the system (roughly 473M currently) and at least 66% of those were upvotes the proposal should PASS eligibility phase.
  • The proposal will move to an official vote if the previous step was accomplished and be published on the proposals page of the Splinterlands website. Here users will spell out their governance vote once again that will determine if the proposal will PASS or FAIL for good.

On top of this, I like that they didn't put any limit on the initiator in terms of holding a certain amount of SPS tokens. This means that this is true governance and the whales don't decide everything around here. I appreciate this and hopefully, it will not change in the future. And now a question for you.

What do you think of the rules for Splinterlands players' DAO proposals?

The value in Splinterlands is skewed to cards. Their amount is limited, and they have a use case. On the other hand, SPS is inflationary and generates income like cards. Voting right on SPS DAO is not essential unless you are a whale. So SPS needs further incentives.

Wait, isn't kryptonite like the bad thing? Thought this was going to be a FUD post seeing that pop up 😅

Kryptonite can be a weapon in the right hands, the community hands. ;)

"Kryptonite is a fictional material that appears primarily in Superman stories published by DC Comics. In its best-known form, it is a green, crystalline material originating from Superman's home world of Krypton that emits a unique, poisonous radiation that can weaken and even kill Kryptonians. Kryptonite radiation can emit through any element except lead. Thus, Superman has a special lead suit to protect himself from the radiation. There are other varieties of kryptonite, such as red and gold kryptonite, which have different but still generally negative effects. Due to Superman's popularity, kryptonite has become a byword for an extraordinary exploitable weakness, synonymous with "Achilles' heel". Batman, Lex Luthor, Metallo, and Titano are four notable characters often presented as using kryptonite — the first carrying the substance as a last-ditch method to stop his ally Superman if he is subject to mind control or otherwise compromised, the next two using the mineral to ward off Superman or incorporating it into weapons to try to kill him, and the fourth being able to project rays of kryptonite radiation from his eyes after being altered by simultaneous exposure to kryptonite and uranium."

Haha thanks for the elaborate response, there's some nuance to the concept I guess. Still quite deep for a post title, I imagine most people know it to be like the Achilles' heel more so than a weapon ;-)

Learned something today!

I think it's good but I am a little unsure how the proposals will happen. Will they still happen within the SPS proposal system that they have now or is it based on a comment/post system (like ARCHON)? I assume it will be based on the SPS proposal.

At first, will be a post on the Hive blockchain detailing the proposal where SPS holders will either upvote or downvote it and later on will be integrated within the current SPS Proposals page.
