Are you ready for Rift Watchers?

Splinterlands finally let it slip that the pre-sale round of Rift Watchers collection will be live sometime next month. This gives you very limited time to actually get them because, as previously mentioned by Splinterlands, this will be a very limited series of cards.

My best guess is that the total sale will only last a couple of hours, so the sooner you can buy the packs, the better. If you recall the early period of Chaos Legion packs and how things proceeded so fast, the likely scenario is that we will have a repeat of that.

It was also mentioned that there will be a special monster that will be airdropped to participants of the pre-sale round. I haven't gotten specifics because I wasn't in the town hall meeting but I figure it will be based on the number of RW packs you manage to buy during the pre-sale round.

The way I see it, if you have any intention of being a part of any of the round of sales, then you have to start preparing early because time is of the essence. This limited series of monsters seems to come with a lot of promise of some rare badass monsters that could dramatically improve your battle proficiency.

Another interesting bit of news that came out of the town hall meeting is that in the future, SPS will be burnt to generate DEC. As you know, DEC is typically used to pay for Chaos Legion packs, potions and individual monsters. I reckon this move is related to getting DEC back to the pegged price.

Preparing for packs

I made some enquiries on Twitter and found out that SPS will be the designated token used to mint Rift Watchers packs. I also found out that all the SPS generated from the sale will be sent to the Splinterlands DAO.

So, in essence, buying Rift watchers packs is both beneficial to you and to the general well-being of SPlinterlands as we slowly ease into the SPS-based governance model. The funds in the DAO will be used to handle Splinterlands-related activities that are beneficial to the game.

Anyway, from my finding, each rift watcher pack will cost $5 worth of SPS token. This gives me a lot to think of because the dollar value pricing means the price of each pack will vary based on the crypto market as a whole.

This leads to a couple of questions about how I intend to go about it and it is based on different scenarios.

So, on one hand, assuming the price of SPS token starts pumping due to the launch of RW packs, I could always just pay for some packs with the SPS in my collection. In this scenario, if SPS pumps well enough, I might have to actually sell some SPS token to handle some expenses in my life.

In the aforementioned scenario, I will also have to power down SPS token, which, I had already been doing for a couple of weeks now. I will simply hold the SPS token and watch the market because I'm generally not eager to sell my SPS token.

Assuming RW packs don't pump the price of SPS and somehow, the price of SPS even drops, I will definitely not be buying packs with the SPS in my collection. I will leave my SPS staked and instead, purchase a couple of thousand SPS with my post rewards.

Right now, I have already started piling up SPS token, and I will be doing so in small quantities until the day the RW collection kicks off. This dollar cost averaging tactic will help me maximise my earnings from publishing around here. Hopefully, it will be enough to buy a couple of packs when the time comes.

In summary

No matter what happens, I will be able to buy some Rift Watcher packs when it launches. The only thing that can prevent me from buying packs is if they sell out before I get the chance to pay.

Naturally, I'd be glad if the price of SPS pumps in the process and enables me to pay for more packs with fewer tokens. I'd rather not sell all my SPS tokens as I actually have big plans for the token in the near future.

It will be fascinating to see how this turns out, In a couple of weeks, all will become clearer.
