End of holiday, the rat race and monetising another hobby

We've finally come to the end of our two-day crypto holiday in Abuja. The reason I called it a crypto holiday is because all the activities were 100% funded by crypto.

It was a really fun experience that I also learned a bit from. I picked up a bit about the importance of real estate, the interest in crypto and exchanged notes about trading, NFTs and blockchain gaming.

Anyway, now that the holiday is over, it's time to go back home, double down and start working. Despite the activities of the past two days, I don't think I even spent up to my expected weekly HBD payout on Hive.

It's really incredible how much value can be derived from Hive. If you have some spare cash and time, I highly recommend you treat yourself a little bit.

In the future, we intend to visit other locations in the country. We'd probably visit somewhere in the Southern or Eastern part of the country on our next trip.

A trip to somewhere that's not Abuja is going to be more expensive than this one because of the flightfare. We'll not be able to take this kind of trip without saving up for it.

Back to regular service

We're on a train to Kaduna and in a couple of hours, I'll be back to my regular programming. In a weird way, I actually missed our apartment in Kaduna.

Abuja is way more awesome in many regards but Kaduna is our home for now, and we understand it a bit more than Abuja. Also, Abuja has a very complex and frustrating road network that's nothing like the simple life we have in Kaduna.

I also don't like the fact that the internet was really slow at the hotel close to the train station. I miss having fast internet access like we do at Kaduna.

Due to the horrible internet situation at Kubwa, I wasn't able to claim my SPS rewards or do anything related to Splinterlands.

I didn't check anything happening in Hive-engine or perform any transactions on Cubfinance. Then again, the whole point of the crypto holiday was to lighten my workload, so in some way, I guess the shitty internet worked in my favour.

It's actually weird to be in the position that I am in right now. I took a holiday and I spent part of the holiday missing my "job". It sort of makes me wonder if I'm actually working or if my entire life isn't just one big holiday.

Monetising another hobby

Still on the topic of holiday, while I was at Abuja, I noticed that many young people were offering taxi services with Bolt and Uber. It's something that I've fantasized about doing for a while but never did.

I'm concerned about the amount of risky situations I could be facing. Theft, robbery, kidnapping and many other boxes are quite rampant, and I'd rather just keep my head down.

Despite the risks, I considered just adding myself to the roster of taxi drivers in the city because it enables me have a Naira paying job. This way, I also have a more digestible "explanation" other than "Writer" to use as the source of my income.

I know nobody cares for now but this is Nigeria, you never know when bullshit is around the corner. Instead of waiting for shit to hit the fan, I'm thinking of taking a proactive step to mitigate it.

I don't plan to do it full time or even regularly. I'll probably do like five trips a week to keep my profile active.

Funny enough, I actually like driving, so it's going to be like Monetising my hobby in a similar way to what I'm doing on Hive with writing. However, it's infinitely riskier and offers extremely small ROI when compared to Hive.

So the question is now if I want to or not. I like evolving and I easily get bored of monotony, so this could actually offer me some new fun way to burn time.

I'll take extra measures by working exclusively during the day and also avoid some sensitive areas in the city. Also, since I could be doing it only five times a week, it's nothing serious and I'll be having fun with it.

It's just a thought anyway, so nothing is confirmed. I'll figure out my next step soon but until then, I have to say, it feels good to be heading back to my office and doing what I love doing.

😂 I see you are just looking for an adventure, that’s the reason you considering taxi driving. That’s cool, I used to stay in Abuja and I love the peace and serenity compared to Lagos.

"Good morning sir, can i book a trip to Leventis? I want a full day, don't worry about the cost" 😂

Wow. I'm amazed at how you turn everything to money. I've never been on a plane but that'll change soon enough. You need to give me a few on what you learned regarding real estate. Seriously, I'm mind blown by your mind right now

I'll charge like 50k for that kind of stress.

It's good to see how much value Hive can add to a person's life. A trip fully funded by crypto is the way to go, with time crypto would be the source of everyone's livelihood (even though it already is).

It's good to take a rest after working, it's a nice way to relax and get the brain functioning well again.

Getting a side hustle is a nice idea, especially with the way things are.

If you ever embark on another trip be sure to carry us along bro..

Good morning and have a great day

My wife did all the documenting of the trip. We'll make another trip soon, we just haven't picked the next destination.

Yeah, I think I read her last post about the trip. It was a really nice experience.

Looking forward to the next one...when you both eventually pick it.

And then maybe you'll be educating us on real estate too? 😏

The ROI won't matter so much once you think about the fact that it's something you enjoy.

A taxi driver as a hobby and a bit of spare cash is a nice way of enjoying an activity. :)

That's what I was thinking. I'm only kind of considering it for fun but at the same time, there are risks.
