Genesis League Goals is one step closer to launch

It was recently announced that investors that bought GLG packs can now open them. At the time I got the information, I didn't have any unstaked packs, so out of excitement, I went to Hive-engine to buy a couple of packs.

The game will take elements of Splinterlands and then mould them into this football card trading game. Also, based on the names of the characters I saw in my opened pack, I assume it will take the likeness of football players in the MLS.

There's no marketplace for the cards yet but I reckon that will come around soon. Just like Splinterlands, each card you find in a pack will be an NFT.

In my first pack, I got a gold foil Carles Gil that I assume is a midfielder due to the "MF" on the card. I got two other midfielders, a defender and superfans.

I suspect that despite embracing certain aspects of Splinterlands, the gameplay and mechanics will be quite different. I suspect cards like superfans and others that I am yet to discover will have special uses that goes beyond just throwing into the frontline like Splinterlands monsters are used.

I scrolled through the Genesis League Goals page to see my collection and it turns out I also have coaches. The Superfans and Boss boost I found in my packs were actually coaches but I don't know how they'll work.

Anyway, there is still a lot more to come from the game, so as the days go by we will see more about the rules and gameplay. I didn't think I'd be as excited about the game as I am now and with launch only just a couple of weeks away, I am now itching to start playing.

More questions and thoughts

I expect a marketplace to launch pretty soon with cards going up for sale. I don't know how the leveling up process will work, so we will have to say about that.

The fact that the cards are made in the likeness of MLS players means there's an unlimited number of assets that can be generated. Although I can't say for sure if the stats on the cards are based on the quality of players in the league.

For example, if a mega star like Ronaldo moves to the MLS, will he have higher stats than everyone else due to his immense quality on the pitch? Perhaps the stats on each card is generated randomly but the position is based on real life?

Also, we know that Gold foils will be more expensive and scarce but what influence will they have on the game?

It is safe to assume that since this game is based on football, at least 16 cards will be used per match. 11 cards on the pitch, 1 coach and 4 substitutes but the number of subs should ideally be more with managers having the option to substitute a maximum of five in a game, based on Fifa rules.

I expect there to be injuries to your cards that will prevent them from being used for a while but all of that is dependent on the way the game is setup. Fouls and suspensions are other aspects of the game that I'll be looking forward to experiencing.

It's great to hear how excited you are about the Genesis League Goals game and how you just bought the GLG packs. The mix of football card trading and Splinterlands sounds interesting, and I can't wait to see how the game will be played and how the rules will work. The fact that the cards are NFTs adds an interesting twist to the game, and I'm sure the market for the cards will be a big hit with players. It will be interesting to see how players can level up and how their cards can be improved.

they just updated their help/support page yesterday, worth to check out:

https://support-goals.genesisleaguesports.com/hc/en-us/articles/14632538712468-Navigating-the-Collection-View

also, the gameplay was published months ago in the whitepaper (7 starter and 5 subtitution):

https://whitepaper-goals.genesisleaguesports.com/gameplay

they update both regularly.

Ah, good stuff Maria, thank you. Although the whitepaper does say that there will be many alterations along the line, so I just focus on what my eyes see and not let my expectations ruin the beautiful "surprise".

that's true, it says on every page:

Note: Concepts contained in this whitepaper are subject to change.

however, good to know, and i dont think they will make changes in that, it would discredit them very much. i am more curious about the tournament registrations, as it writes: max 30 players in 1 tournament. i suppose there will be plenty in the same time, so there are plenty questions about that (mainly can you enter different tourneys in the same time and have to use different cards? i guess yes, but who knows), would be good to know how that will be very soon, as that's a big factor how many more packs I should buy and keep.

Your assertion about the incoming tournaments and setup is spot on. I reckon one needs to open a decent number of packs to have a barely decent team to compete.

Have you opened packs and also, have you heard anything about a marketplace fo cards? Also, hw does upgrading work?

did not open any packs yet, all staked, next (few) week Hive investment will go for buying packs and open them. (anyway, i want to leave packs for years later, i am sure those prices are going up significantly by the years, new season pack releases.)

No, I did not hear, read anything exact about marketplace. However - just my opinion - it is not a good idea to start to sell cards right at the beginning. Don't remember whitepaper or faq wrote it: this season packs, cards are the most valuable, regarding to gameplay, earnings in the game. When they will release new season packs in every year in the future, this fact will push 1st season cards price up and up.

Upgrading (i have just whitepaper info):
anyway good question. i mean the XP part is clear, you use the cards for playing, gain XP and it upgardes

the combining part is really not clear for me, how it will be in practice, but i suppose worth to save some cards for that (burning), too. at least i count on that.

anyway, i dont know i asked you or not. do you know anything about GLGT, i mean more than the whitepaper, FAQ writes. usage, function, max supply, anything???

i am sure, that will be a big factor in gameplay, just not sure how big i should go in speculation on that.

Well then that means I'll start buying more packs then. I don't intend to sell anything yet though, I'll sell packs and monsters in the future, maybe one or two years down the line.

Only thing I know about GLGT is what you already know and that it will be for discounts.

(Edited)

Again, based on whitepaper, it will be in daily use, not only for discounts.

https://whitepaper.genesisleaguesports.com/tokenomics/genesis-league-game-time-glgt-token

How I understand, it will be pretty much necessary to play the game, tournaments, I just guess it will be used as a tournament buyin, and I think, that will be a very important part in high ranking, earning tourneys. You spend (partly or fully) GLGT for tourney entry and you earn GLX.

And GLGT has just 1.5M in circulation today, you earn it slower, depends on how much these events cost, it can go big much faster than glx. (would be really good to find out max supply, if it has any.) just speculation... anyway, even if i am wrong it will be a must to play the game.

I'm sure GLGT will also be burnt whenever it is used, so the supply might even be low.

you mentioned marketplace. i checked around deeply 1-2 months ago, when i was thinking about put money in GLG, regarding sport nft cards, games, marketplaces. there are already plenty. i dont really understand the legal part, as i found MLS cards, games, too. However looks like big old paper cards issuers, licence holders already have NFTs, also marketplaces. some cards prices are shocking. after bought enough GLG packs, my next game related purchase will be outside Hive, probably on Panini, they are developing a play to earn part, too. and not only soccer cards.

maybe good examples about marketplace, too. wonder who and how can create a marketplace for all kind of cards, issuers, that can be a huge business.

https://nft.paniniamerica.net/

The Panini looks the best for me. And they already have a huge customer base, even if 10% of them get involved in nfts, it will be huge very fast. and how i see, it will be very similar to GLG, but they have plenty sports, leagues already. and it is just the beginning of that 150 years old sports card industry transformation into digital. i highly recommend you check out cards prices, how they change by time, i was really surprised. in my opinion, it is a good investment.

just found it regading this season packs, cards in the future:

As a new set will be released every year, there will be a modern and legacy format. In modern, the current set will be playable while in the wild every set will be playable. Older pack editions will receive an increasing bonus in wild for each year it is out of print.
