Move to Gold league or stay in Silver league?

Gold or silver.png

It's been a hard road to the Silver 1 league but I'm pleased to say that I made it there. Silver league has been stressful but I've been roughig it there with my mostly Silver level monsters that I continue to upgrade.

At the time of writing, I'm brawling with a deck that has a collection power that surpasses the collection power requirement of the Silver league. With a 198K collection power, I could walk into the Gold league right now but I don't think that is a smart move for me.

I'm not considering moving to the Gold league because I don't think I have the required level of monsters to cut it at that level. At the time of writing, I only have one level 5 Tarsa, while the rest of the Chaos Legion collection of monsters are all in level 4, making them better suited for the Silver league.

On the other hand, I keep thinking about how much I'll hate to start next season in Bronze league hell and I kind of feel like I should at least consider ending next season in Gold league. It is a territory that I think I'm underprepared for but I reckon it can't be that bad.

In the Silver league, I'm one of the big dogs, grinding my way up the ladder. Earlier today, I was as high as 110th position for a brief moment but I forgot to take a screenshot. After getting my ass kicked a couple of times, I dropped to 163 and overall, I'll say that's not too bad.

It feels nice to be in such elite company but I really wonder if I stand any chance of actually cutting it in the higher league.

Staying in Silver

As I mentioned earlier, If I stay in Silver league, I could potentially brawl my way into contention for the top prizes in this neck of the woods. With some luck and proper tactics, I could actually end up being one of the top 25 players that receive upwards of 4000 DEC.

I seriously doubt that I'll actually be breaking into the top 10 based on the level of competition, but the top 25 is not out of the question. There's a lot of competition but I have a formidable deck of cards that can cause problems on the wild side.

Also, climbing up the ranks is a bit of a morale boost for me, as I feel "important" in the general scheme of things.

The problem with being in the Silver league is that I receive a very tiny amount of SPS from battles. Granted my collection power is drained these days, that takes nothing away from how small the SPS reward has been.

Gold Conundrum

I have to admit, I'm very tempted to move up to the Gold league and forget about climbing up the ranks in Silver league.

The way I see it, if I'm not picking up the 30,000-40,000 DEC reward for being in the top 2, there's really no substantial value in sticking with this league.

I keep thinking, what if I just take my chances in Gold league? The worst-case scenario is that I'll get pegged back to SIlver league and life goes on.

The only problem with being in Gold league is that I don't think my deck is currently at the required competitive level to actually be in the Gold league.

From my experience, I know that to survive in Gold league, you need to have a minimum level 5 rare summoner, level 3 legendary summoner or level 4 Epic summoner with the maximum required monsters of various rarities to boot.

Don't get me wrong, it is not that you can't survive with lower-rated monsters, but to improve your chances of winning, getting your summoners and monsters up to that level increases your chances of survival.

In Summary

At the time of writing, my deck is far from "the gold standard". However, I think I'll meet a couple of other players of my level in the early stages of my Gold journey.

My collection power says I'm allowed to enter Gold 2, yet I think I'll barely survive Gold 3. I think I'll make the tough decision and move up to Gold league but I'm pretty certain that I won't actually be able to make any sort of impact there.

I hate being in Bronze, so I mostly battle in Silver but move up to Gold late in the season, just so I don’t have to start the next season in Bronze.

Man I really hate Bronze league as well. So when you move up to Gold at the end of the season, do you start the next season chasing Gold chests or Silver chest rewards?

Both. Gold season rewards and Silver focus rewards.

How many Gold chests do you usually get at the end of the season?

Usually 40 or so, but I haven’t played consistently this season so am at only 12 right now.

I had the same question and I decided to stay in Silver for battle and go to Gold at season end. I see a big gain when I open seasonal Gold chests than Silver chests, even I got more Silver chests.

I also rent out the remaining CP to get more DEC.

Once my deck is strong enough as you said "suitable level for both summoners and monsters", otherwise it may be more suffer of losing battles and I get fewer reward chests.

I decided to cross over to the Gold side to test it out. If it doesn't go well, I'll just drop to Silver and stay here

Myself and @jakkal talk about this quite a bit and it sounds like you're in about the same spot as us. He spent a little bit of time in Gold last season and I think he may be trying it again this season so maybe he can shed a little light from his recent experience.

tbh, @belemo I don't recommend going to Gold - especially if you run GF Silver (idk what you run but I'm assuming it's likely you have a lot of GF with that CP)

GF Silver had me earning more SPS per win than most of Gold, and by the time I hit about 2500, I was stalling out massively - A Silver deck doesn't cut it up there, and your win rate is heavily affected. For a RF Silver deck, it might be worth it, but there's a few issues:

  1. I rented some RF Gold cards to augment my deck - usually whatever splinter was my focus, and a 2nd, cheap one. This costs a lot and I net negative for every day and the EoS barely put me at Break Even with a single pack. The odds just don't favor you pulling out ahead.

  2. To add to this: You lose access to all Bronze Tournaments and all Beginner/Scarred Hand Silver tournaments.

  3. Chests were absolutely garbage - the same 0.4 SPS chests you get in Silver, the same merits - a tonnnnn more potions (which was my favorite part of the rewards - 10-15 potions per chests is nice actually.) I'll find out if the EoS chests were worth it this season - but I'm only at about 23 chests, and my EV for chests in Gold was less than 1 cent excluding potions. Maybe I have horrible luck there though. It's to the point where some days my bronze alt earned more than my gold account. But then, Bronze, Silver, Gold is the new Bronze, right?

In total, moving up to Gold probably lost me hundreds of SPS, and the stress of renting and having to pay exorbitant amounts was painful, and caused any net positive to be neutralized to a break even on playing.

There is a solution to moving up but you're probably not gunna like it: I elected for the decision to liquidate some cards and create a RF Gold Level set of Commons and Rares to start building up for Gold play on an Alt, where I won't lose my tournaments. So far, this has been a lot more manageable. This account currently can't reach very high in gold, only about 1900-2200, but it's now earning more potions for me, and earning better SPS than it would as a Silver account, this season is its first season being functional though - I still have to rent summoners for it, but I found renting just summoners, plus a few cheap core legendaries, even 1 bcx, much easier to break even on.

You make a lot of points, especially the last bit about liquidating some assets.
I've actually been considering liquidating a couple of my GF cards and throwing that value into leveling up my Commons and rares for Gold league.
