My first full match in Genesis League Goals: Opinion

image.png

I just tested out Genesis League Goals and it was without a doubt, the weirdest football game I have ever played in my life and I have played many. For what it's worth, being weird doesn't mean it is bad or good, it is just different and sometimes, that's a good thing.

Bringing something different to the table in this day and age is a daunting task, so kudos to the team for achieving this. The game reminds me of some mobile phone games I I use to play where you only have access to a few players and you swipe your screen to perform actions.

I tried to login to my Genesis League Goals page sometime yesterday and it said the site was down for maintenance, so I assumed something big was on the way. I guess in a way we could say this is big news but we can now all test out the general features of the game.

Imagination

The way I see it, to properly enjoy this game, you really have to let your imagination roam because if you're already used to the action packed and fast paced nature of real football, you'll find this one rather languid, at best.

As I said at the beginning, the nature of the game isn't inherently a bad thing because that's what makes it unique. The 7 a side setup makes for faster and swifter resolution of the game while also enabling it to be mobile friendly in the process.

If you've been keeping up with modern data approach to analysing football, you'll find that it is not out pf place to actually whittle down actions on the pitch into measurable data.

So, during play, when I see my midfielder attempting a pass with low chance of success, I assume he's threading a pass into tight space and vice versa means that the striker probably peeled away from the defender to create space.

At first glance, it might be difficult to understand the general dynamics of the game but if you give it a minute, you'll be fine. Numerous qualities seem to be at the fore of deciding the outcome of the game. Individual aspects of the player like stamina, passing, dribbling, shooting and the other qualities on the players' card work together to determine every action's chance of success.

Your opponent's cards also play a major role in determining where the ball goes when you're in or out of possession. It is strangely like football even though it generally doesn't have the aura of actual football.

Playig the game

My first game was a defeat to zdemo12, which I assume is a testing bot created by devs to allow everyone get a feel of the game. I already had a team in place, so I sent them on to the pitch and they lost but they put up a good fight against an opponent that had the upper hand.

If you're looking to test out the game, I'd advise that you ensure you add players to be substitutes, as well. They will be very important when your starters inevitably start running out of steam during the game.

As I said at the beginning, playing a football game that doesn't feel like football was strange but also weirdly enjoyable. Playing was also very simple and kind of self explanatory because the chances of success for every decision(Pass, Shoot or Dribble) is clearly displayed on the page.

To increase your chance of success, you obviously have to level up and upgrade your cards but just like real football, having superior individuals in your team doesn't guarantee victory. It is also about managing the stamina and timing your use of your pkayers' qualities.

So, if you dribble when you're supposed to shoot or pass when you're supposed to dribble, you could lose your chance. This means you will also need to have an idea about the qualities of opposition players, as this enables you to make even better decisions on the pitch. Honestly, it is a lot to unpack but that's what adds to the unpredictability and fun of the game.

If you're looking for an exact replica of the 11v11 sport that we know, then Genesis League Goals is not for you. However, if you're willing to overlook the differences and appreciate this game for what it is, you might actually find this mobile-friendly game addictive.
