Owning a piece of Splinterlands history

Despite my financial constraints, I couldn't resist the prospect of adding this dual element monster into my collection. Zyriel will go down in history as the pioneer of multi-elemntal choice and as such, it felt right to add it to my collection.

I'm not going to lie, buying it has come at a personal cost because the Hive I spent would have gone towards paying some bills at home. However, who needs electric and water when I can have NFTs?

Buying requires quite a lot of calculations, I must add. I had to max out the voucher discount and then add 40K DEC to buy it.

At the time of writing, each voucher used for discount removes 250 DEC from the price and a maximum of 160 vouchers is allowed per purchase. So, using 160 vouchers for a purchase effectively means a 50% discount for one card.

So, what this means in essence is that if I was buying 2 cards, then I'd have needed 320 vouchers to get a 50% discount. At the time of writing, a voucher costs about $0.1, so it is fair value to actually buy up as many vouchers as possible.

In my case, I only had to buy another 100 vouchers at just $10. At the current market value of DEC, each voucher that offers 250 DEC discount is effectively removing around 21 cents from the total price of the monster.

So, if you intend to get some Zyriel into your collection, it is advisable that you max out the voucher discount first before paying half price with DEC. If you've been farming SPS for a while, then you probably have enough vouchers in your wallet already and won't need to even bother going into the market.

Also, the monster is priced in DEC and not dollar value of DEC. So I'd also advice that you buy the DEC off Hive-engine and not convert your SPS. At the current market rate of DEC, 40K DEC is around $35.

Anyway, at the end of the day, I spent around $45 to get one standard foil Zyriel. I'll obviously not be using it for battles anytime soon, so I put it up for rent and earning regularly from it.

As a pioneer, I expect this monster to have immense value in the near future. It is the only monster outside of dragon that can be used with two different elements.

When I eventually get back to playing, I'll have a lot of fun with this monster. However, before then, I'll be hoping the market moves in my favour and the price of the monster spikes to heights unseen in the history of Splinterland. Dreaming is free, you know?
