Prioritising quantity over quality this season

My Splinterlands season took an unexpected twist when I forgot to move to Gold league at the end of the previous season. This error turned into an experiment and I'll like to see where it leads.
At the time of writing, I'm up to 53 SIlver chests for the season from one of my least productive seasons. I think, for the most part, this experiment would have been more rewarding if I was a bit more active during the season but that can't be helped.
The experiment is to compare Gold chests with silver chests at the end of the season because, for the most part, I really don't see much difference in terms of the quality of rewards inside the chests.
The rewards in gold chests are supposed to be marginally better than Silver chests but in the past couple of seasons, I haven't really been impressed. I've had the luxury of being able to directly compare Silver and Gold chests since my daily focus earns me Silver chests and my season quest used to earn me Gold chests.
For this season, I decided to exclusively earn only Silver chests to see if there will be any difference at the end of the season. My goal is not to prove that Silver chests are better than gold chests because the answer is embedded in the code, my goal is to figure out which adds more value to me.
Quantity over Quality
The experiment is pretty straightforward, honestly. However, as I said earlier, this season won't offer decent results since I wasn't brawling aggressively throughout.
Due to my stop-start season, I have only reached 53 Silver chests for the season from passively participating. I believe that if I was playing a bit more aggressively, I should have reached upwards of 70 chests.
In a passive season of chasing Gold chests, I ended with 28 chests, so I could compare the value of rewards from that season to this one. I'll know by the end of the season.
So, by now, it should be pretty obvious that my plan is to target quantity over quality chest rewards. Is more truly better or do I stick with accumulating Gold chests next season?
For example, 20 Gold chests will always offer better rewards than 20 Silver chests but will 20 Gold chests offer better rewards than, say, 50 Silver chests? That's what I'm trying to figure out this season.
My gut tells me that stacking more Silver chests will outweigh the value of rewards I receive from Gold chests but at the same time, gold chests have a higher chance of getting rarer rewards. I'll know more at the end of the season.

I found that the main difference is the multiplier for sps, merits and potions that is noticeable.
But it generally looks to be less rewarding to earn chests from a higher league in a lower league
I think for best results you should always try to play most in the league where you earn the season rewards from
