Splinterlands thoughts: Airdrop, vouchers and packs

It has taken a while but I'm finally up to 10 vouchers accumulated from the daily airdrop from staked SPS tokens. The next step is to make $400 available for my next 100 purchases of Chaos legion packs.

Unfortunately, the market hasn't exactly been kind to my portfolio, so spare funds are hard to come by. I'll have to take another couple of days to scrap up funds that I'll use for this venture.

Actually, with the way things are tight for me this period, I won't be rushing into it either. This will give me time to stack even more vouchers while I scrape up funds.

Splinterlands market as a whole hasn't really been kind to me in recent times. Some of my rentals were cancelled close to the end of the last season, and I was demoted to Gold 1 maximum.

I'd like to go back to battling in Diamond league but with things the way they are now, there's no chance I'll be doing that. Instead, I'll just focus on getting more credit for my purchase.

I reckon that it will take me up to two weeks or maybe even longer to pull out $400 to throw into the game. Although that could all change if the crypto market takes a turn for the better.

The price of Hive has shown some positive signs in recent times, as it climbed up to 90 cents range. However, I really doubt we'll be seeing any major price action within the next couple of months.

Some are suggesting that we might in fact already be in the multi-year bear market and if that is the case, then I hope it doesn't get worse. Unfortunately, in the crypto industry, it often gets very dark before sunlight, so we'll see how that goes.

To sell or not to sell

Right now, I have a bit over $500 worth of monsters that I don't actually use. Over $400 worth of monsters are currently delegated out to some of my friends.

I've been pondering over the idea of selling some of my unused monsters to raise funds for packs. However, I'm somewhat uncomfortable with the idea because I'm trading the known for the unknown.

What I mean is that I know the price of monsters right now, at today's price but packs, not really. In fact, by the time the SPS airdrop ends, the valuation of packs could dramatically drop as well.

Then again, the end of the SPS drop could also coincide with a drop in the value of monsters as well. Although, it also has to be said that after the airdrop, ranked battles will come with SPS and I'm sure your collection power will be vital in determining how many SPS you receive from battles.

So it is possible that monsters will still retain their current value and maybe even rise in the midst of a bull run that happens in the 65 months period.

So thanks to this conundrum, I'll just play it safe by raising funds from elsewhere. However, if demand for any of the monsters in that collection suddenly spikes, I will definitely be selling.

Anyway, at the time of writing, there are less than 100K packs left until the release of the next monster. My total of 681 packs isn't exactly a trailblazer but hopefully, I'll be getting at least one copy of the airdropped monster.

If I end up with some spare cash, I'll be able to buy the required 100 packs before the airdrop commences. That ought to increase my chances and hopefully, this time around, I'll bag a gold foil legendary. Fingers crossed.
