SPS feeling the heat, DEC woes and aftermath of the general sale

avatar

The general sale is still going on and for the most part, many of us have been buying packs. It was always a gamble from the start, so whatever comes out, we'll take it in our stride.

Right now, after that initial rush to grab many packs in the first 24 hours, the sale has cooled down somewhat. On the first day of the sale, about 100k packs were being minted every hour.

It's not a case of interest waning but I suspect it's just a time for people to take a step back and check their stocks. People opening packs are undoubtedly checking the market value and whatnot, to see where they are and whether it was profitable.

If you've been around Splinterlands for a while, then you should know that we're playing the long game. If you take a look at how untamed monsters started and where they are now, you'll get a picture of what the future could hold for Chaos Legion packs.

SPS down

At the time of writing, SPS token is trading at about 15 cents and that's as low as I've ever seen it drop since it first got plunged into circulation. The market value of the token took a big hit and I guess we could say that it was expected.

The general crypto market isn't in good shape right now. The general sale compounds issues for SPS token.

I believe that among all the assets you have in Splinterlands right now, the SPS token is ironically the most expendable, despite its future importance. So, the larger accounts, for example, will undoubtedly be converting a decent chunk of SPS tokens into credit.

Despite the temptation, I decided to swap DEC instead of SPS tokens for Credit. However, the DEC I swapped was what I got from sales of some monsters I received from packs.

I decided to stake more SPS because I wanted to increase the number of vouchers I get every day.

Right now, I'm already geared to buy another 100 packs but I'm short on vouchers, and I definitely won't be buying vouchers that I can earn for free. So, that leaves me with one obvious move and that's to stake SPS.

DEC pain

As I mentioned a moment ago, DEC was the opportunity cost of buying Splinterlands credit. It is a token that has taken quite a beating since its previous highs just weeks ago.

Unfortunately, I don't see this trend changing anytime soon during the general sale at least. As we head further down the line, I don't think we'll be seeing much improvement either because other than the SPS airdrop, there's not much incentive to have DEC.

When things get better in the general market, we ought to see some positive movement in DEC though. However, it won't be anything substantial because of the lack of incentive to hodl it.

On the plus side, I reckon most of the value of DEC will be transmitted to the monsters in our deck. This value will be compounded by the effect that the general market will have when things get better.

Still hopeful

In any case, the market is where it's at and that's all we know. We'll work with the variables available to us to make the most out of the situation.

The limited voucher supply ensures that there's still a need to stake SPS token. So, in some way, this could work in favour of SPS tokens in the future.

There are still a number of listings in the works. As discussed in numerous publications by the official Splinterlands account, SPS will be getting listed on a couple of platforms.

I reckon that all it will take for a major boost in price is a listing in one of the major exchanges like Binance, Kucoin, Huobi and the likes. A move like that will have a huge impact on the price of SPS tokens.

At the end of the SPS airdrop, when only staking rewards exist and there are listings as well, I reckon we'll also see positive moves. Add this to all the marketing campaigns in the background, and I get the feeling that Splinterlands is far from reaching its peak.

Splinterlands currently is just one big temptation with the prices being as low as they are - do you buy packs, SPS, singles.. Decisions, decisions.

Bears are poking in and the entire crypto space feels their claws. Still, I think this is a provisory situation and even if we go deeper, for sure will bounce back harder. It is not a price number game, but a patience and capitalizing on the opportunities game.

I am bullish on SPS, and not sure about DEC. I think that as long as the SPS Airdrops are going on, DEC will still be valuable. But I don't see SPS moving up, for the time, the general market is still beaten down.
After the SPS airdrop, this is a completely different story. If they don't find another use case or value creating moment, DEC will drop.

Cheers,
