This is why I voted for the DEC-B proposal

I finally got around to read the recent DEC-B proposal and overall, I feel like it will lead to a positive outcome for Splinterlands. This proposal has the potential to finally sort out some of the problems that have been hindering achieving the DEC peg by incentivising the burning of the token.

Achieving the DEC peg is an issue that has lingered for quite some time now. Despite all the attempts, things just don't seem to work out, particularly with the crypto market being where it is today.

This DEC-B proposal seeks to incentivise burning DEC token by creating an absorbent soul-bound sink that will eat up a decent chunk of DEC token. This will be achieved through a discount for burning DEC tokens.

To summarise the proposal, the plan is to enable Splinterlands players to convert DEC tokens to a new token called DEC-B(DEC-Battery) token at a rate of 0.8:1. The DEC-B token will then be used for the purchase of soul bound assets in Splinterlands.

Soul-bound assets in SPlinterlands simply refer to assets that don't appear on any marketplace. So, assets like potions, and contributions to guilds will be covered by DEC-B tokens.

Gladius assets can only be gotten through merits, so they'll not be covered by DEC-B tokens. However, there are incoming features that include Land Survey "Potions", and Future mini-editions that DEC-B will be used to pay for.

Why did I vote in favour?

I had seen snippets of opinions about the proposal and many were negative. A lot of the posts I saw claimed that it will be ineffectual and just turn out to be another gimmick that won't actualise the result.

My impression was skewed against the proposal at first but I don't ever make conclusions without getting my own perspective. I gave it a read a couple of hours ago and I saw the point of it.

Now, I get that we're talking about adding yet another token into a game that already has quite a number of tokens all coexisting. I understand how overwhelming this could be, particularly for a newcomer and for those trying to onboard players.

RIght now, we have Merits, Credits, SPS, and DEC all thriving as tokens in the game without even considering vouchers which are also technically tokens. That's a lot to unpack and explaining it to people is quite tedious.

Throw in DEC-B and now we have a total of 5 tokens in the game. I don't have information about other blockchain games but I wonder if another web 3 games have these many tokens.

I can understand why anyone would want to vote against the proposal. The proposal adds another layer of complexity to a game that is constantly evolving and adding new parts,

Honestly, it is a lot to unpack. Imagine onboarding a new player and explaining why all these tokens exist; that's a mouthful.

On the other side of the coin though, is the fact that the DEC-B proposal has a specific purpose. Perhaps this is a result of the fact that I'm very conversant with the Splinterlands ecosystem but I feel like the purpose of the token validates its creation.

Pushing DEC to the peg through an incentivised burn mechanism is fair. Unlike the SPS-DEC burn mechanism that could hurt one in favour of the other, this approach could sort out the DEC peg in one fell swoop.

In this first phase, only 2 Billion DEC-B tokens will be created, and this is capable of burning 1.6 Billion DEC. The proposal also enables the burning of vouchers but I doubt people will actually even bother burning vouchers since they serve a unique purpose that kicks into gear, regardless of their market value.
