Trying something new, tutorials and learning on the fly

I've been a Splinterlands man for the longest time and nothing is going to change. However, in recent times, I've been craving a new adventure and it has had me researching other games.

Yesterday, I finally tried Gods Unchained and I loved it. It was an awesome experience for me and now I've officially decided to play it regularly.

Unlike Splinterlands, GU is a lot more intense and will require my undivided attention to get ahead.

What this means is that I might have to take yet another break from playing Splinterlands. This time, I'll lease out everything in the rentals market.

I'm not going to put any pressure on myself to earn from GU. The first month or two of my experience will just be participating in ranked battles and learning on the fly.

It feels right.

I played and lost two battles in GU yesterday. After that, it was a bit too late, so I decided to go to bed.

I woke up early this morning and all I could think about was what I could have done differently. The annoying thing is that I can't for the life of me figure it out and it's infuriating.

I've decided to put in work in the game and understand how all the moving pieces work. I know enough about Card battle games to know that there's no one way wins it all technique for the game, so I have to experiment.

So when I do get back in the game, I'll be trying out different techniques until I'm able to win.

What about money though?

As I said earlier, I won't be putting any pressure on myself to get money from the game. Just like Splinterlands, I'll let things progress organically.

I will explore the marketplace though, and then ask questions from different people about ways that I could improve my deck.

I don't know stuff about leveling up Gods or the other cards, special abilities and all that stuff. Right now, all I know is that the War Starter looks cool af, so I'll be using him.

Anyway, the only downside of the game is that it's on Ethereum Blockchain. However, so far so good, I've not had to contend with gas fee at any point.

I linked my wallet address easily and at some point, I'll have to put some Ethereum inside. The game obviously doesn't stress players to spend money but I'm trying to get ahead, so maybe legendary packs might help me achieve that.

I won't splurge on legendary packs though, because I'm poor. My plan is to let the game pay for the legendary packs.

After I've completely understood the basics and mechanism of gameplay to the point that I can decipher which cards will improve my deck, I'll put in money.

The money I put in will be used to buy rare and epic packs. Those packs will then give me some cards that will hopefully be good enough to enable me to stack tokens until I can afford a legendary pack.

I'll rinse and repeat the above strategy to buy the more advanced packs. It's still a bit raw but as I progress in the game, my strategies will be getting refined.

The next step

The next step for me is to just continue playing GU and adapting to it. Figure out what works and what doesn't work.

Understand how to pick my starting deck and what the game is telling me to do at the beginning when it asks me to "replace" cards in my deck.

I will make videos to document my experience and will crave the indulgence of the community for advice. Tell me what I'm doing wrong and tell me what I'm doing right.

I know I've taken a while but I'm finally here. After my first experience of the game, I realized that perhaps I should have been here all along but no time to whine about spilled milk, it's time for me to grow.

Funny but I could say I discovered this game before you, but just like splinterlands, I'm yet to actually dedicate to it. I already have it installed on my PC, and yes, one thing that actually scared me off is the fact that Ethereum ain't for poor guys like me :)

Their Immutable X marketplace is on layer 2, no fees, I still have to use it, I think the fee only applies when you send ETH to your GU account?!? I still need to look properly into it, but for now let us play the game and farm all the free stuff :)

Seems like there's no gas fee to pay. I've played a couple of battles and won one. I'm already getting a hang of it.

I read that you need $15 worth of ETH to withdraw. I am still learning for now and seeing if it is true. I mean with all the changes they made and making people on Hive join it...reducing the withdrawal fee won't be out of the question

That doesn't seem so bad, considering how much other people pay for gas fee.

I have an Immutable (Gods Unchained) account since 2019.10.21, but I still have not played Gods Unchained, because the game currently runs only on computers, and I do not have a computer since years, but the developers are working on the mobile version. I am waiting for the Android version.

The more I see all these game stories popping up, the more I feel left behind, I finna see if it is possible to make anything decent from it without spending much of my time and money on it.

GU looks good tbh. I'm not bothered about the money now. Just want to grow.

Good luck with the adventure man! I started too playing recently :)

I used to play Hearthsone for years and this game is a complete ripoff of that LOL so I may do good, we'll see 😂

I know I've taken a while but I'm finally here. After my first experience of the game, I realized that perhaps I should have been here all along but no time to whine about spilled milk, it's time for me to grow.

Same, idk why I didn't play the alpha, it looked like shit I just walked away from it... you live and learn ahaha

Yes, have a look at Hearthstone if you ever have 10 spare minutes and you'll see why this game looks good lol (not hating on GU, everything is a ripoff of a ripoff, you know, copycat society, Hearthstone probably copied Magic, and so on... Blizzard got famous by copying shit and having millions of $ to invest in it and make it better than the competition or the poor companies from where they were copying from...😂)

The only problem with Hearthsone is that you do not actually own the cards. You cannot sell them. Otherwise it is a good game. At least it used to be. I do not know what it is like nowadays. I have not played it since years.

Same here, it was a wonderful game when started, also we are now talking about crypto and blockchain, like when HS came out none of that was a thing (I mean the NFT part and the ownership of NFTs in game, ETH came out in 2017 with smart contracts and HS came out in 2013 with the first beta and went fully live in the next year I think)

I defo understand your view about the "problem" and idk, like it seems now that if a game it's not on the block-chain does not deserve to be played, I think we are still years away from having proper games on a block-chain with the ownership of your items (NFTs) [and by that I mean games that are actually enjoyable to play and not being played only because of some $ that can be made on it], we are getting there definitely but it's not going to be as fast as some people imagine, FOMO is just FOMO, then everything slows down and comes back to earth, so yes in your view it is a problem because you are in WEB3 and owning you asset is huge for you, but 99% of the world is still behind this shit and does not have a clue, so for them it is not a problem but just a normal game.
Blizzard is a business that makes money and brings a great player experience to the players (or at least they used to, I haven't played their games in ages so idk now!) so paying to buy some packs in a game that brings you endless hours of fun it's not a "problem" in my opinion, maybe yeah its lack of ownership is not cool for people like us, but normal people are fine buying shit that they don't own and this is not going to change as quick as we may want, it's just the way things are in a Capitalistic society run by Corporations. (All of this is IMHO)

We may be the first people that see this as a "problem" and hence we are shifting to WEB3 and P2E games with real ownership, but honestly 99% of the games out there look like shit and the good ones won't be out in just a year or 2, it takes time to make good stuff and we can see it with GU, how many years in alpha and beta?

Cheers :)

it seems now that if a game it's not on the block-chain does not deserve to be played

That is not what I meant. I still like many non-blockchain games. For example I regularly play League of Legends: Wild Rift. I often post about it on the Hive blockchain, so you can see it. If you also play it, then my username in the game is [HUN] Xplosive. You can add me as a friend.

I think we are still years away from having proper games on a block-chain with the ownership of your items (NFTs) [and by that I mean games that are actually enjoyable to play and not being played only because of some $ that can be made on it]

Blockchain gaming is still a very new thing. I am sure that it will greatly develop in the upcoming years and decades. Maybe already existing games will also switch to the blockchain model in the future. We will see. But that is certain that Splinterlands is actually enjoyable. I am playing it since 2018.12.30. While nowadays I am probably (unnecessarily) overconcerned about the price of the cards, I still enjoy to play it. It is fun and entertaining to play. Especially with the different card abilities and game rulesets.

Blizzard is a business that makes money

And they could use the blockchain technology to make more, while also providing the opportunity for their players to earn more. If executed properly, then this could be a win-win situation for everyone.

Of course all of this takes time.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings from Hungary.

Thanks, I do agree with everything :)

I'm glad you have fun with Splinterlands, I forgot about it, and yeah it may be one of the few going in the right direction, I'm the weird one that does not like that game lol

Thanks and greeting to you too from London :)

Anyway, the only downside of the game is that it's on Ethereum Blockchain.

Another downside is that you cannot play it in the web browser. You have to install it, and currently there is no mobile version so you have to have a (Windows or Mac) PC or a laptop to play it. Only this is why I have not played Gods Unchained so far.

But they write in the FAQ that "We’re currently working on bringing the game to mobile devices and tablets so watch this space!"

Other than this downside, this game has even an advantage over Splinterlands, and that is the fact that you can start playing and earning for free, so you do not have to spend $10 USD in Gods Unchained to start playing.

Yeah. I already started playing and a mobile version would be really awesome.

I would recommend just buying the cards you want/need for your deck directly, as it is waaaay more cost effective than buying packs and hoping you pull it! You'll also get gods token paid out every week if you complete the Blessings of the Gods requirements, which are usually pretty easy to get. Also, use GUdecks, it is your friend! Welcome aboard!!
