Will 2022 be Splinterlands' year?

I have to be completely honest, Splinterlands has been immense for the community. The game has brought numerous investment opportunities for players and transformed itself into a source of income for many.

A huge part of the growth that the game experienced was due to the SPS governance token airdrop. Thanks to the high demand for the token, every asset in the game experienced a dramatic surge in price.

There have been numerous discussions about the future of SPS tokens and how they'll be employed in the game.

Recent information discussed how people who stake SPS will be actively participating in the management of Splinterlands ecosystem. Well, not the entire ecosystem, just a part of it.

The word is that there will be something like a decentralized pool of SPS tokens that will be largely controlled by validators.

The validators or SPS nodes will offer different proposals and your stake will determine which proposal we take. So, it's basically going to operate like hive and the decentralized hive fun.

More utility

The other story is that there will also be a new mini edition pack like the way we had Dice packs recently.

Only 3 million packs will be released, so the monsters here will be rare.

In the past, Dec was stipulated to be the exclusive token used for buying these packs but there's been a change of plans.

The word is that SPS tokens will be used to buy the Riftwatcher packs. All the SPS tokens from that purchase will then be sent into the decentralized fund.

So, in essence, buying the packs is another way of ensuring the sustainability of the platform.

It's basically a double blessing, with all things considered. You could end up finding some awesome monsters in the pack that could be worth more than the amount you spend on buying packs in the first place.

Something is cooking

I'm excited about the developments coming to Hive through Splinterlands. Thanks to this game, we have the opportunity to put hive firmly on the map.

My hope is that other platforms also experience this level and an even higher level of success in the near future.

The land expansion is still in the works. The economy and other modalities are currently being sorted out.

If things go smoothly, we could be seeing a whole new opportunity for Splinterlands investors. Landowners are definitely going to be smiling to the bank soon.

New year, new hope

The coming year still has the vibe of what is going to be an immense year for the crypto industry. I reckon Splinterlands is also going to be a major beneficiary in the general market growth.

There's still a lot of development left in the game but besides that, the game itself has experienced a lot of input so far that sets it apart from the chasing pack.

Numerous Splinterlands assets are set to see a major boost in their price but I also fear the worst for DEC. As we edge closer and closer to the end of the SPS airdrop, the use case for the token might be dwindling to the bare minimum.

The riftwatchers being taken away means that by the time the mini edition comes along, the only reason one should hold DEC is to earn SPS airdrop.

In some way, I guess that could positively affect the price of DEC but in the long run, I don't think DEC will have that much relevance. It kind of feels like SPS tokens are surreptitiously phasing out DEC.

Who knows though, there could be some new additions along the line to ensure DEC still has relevance. However, looking at it from where we are and projecting based on the information that's available, I can't see the light at the end of the DEC tunnel.

It may or may not be sad for DEC but at least other assets will see a major boost in their value. NFTs in particular that have seen reduced demand will begin to pick up the pace again when the year comes around. I say this because the new developments will be accompanied by marketing campaigns to pull in even more crowds for the already scarce resources in the game.

I think 2022 will be a great year for all the hive communities, and of course Splinterlands as the flagship game will take us on the journey to the moon. I am also excited about project blank and polycub and all the good stuff coming our way

The riftwatchers being taken away means that by the time the mini edition comes along, the only reason one should hold DEC is to earn SPS airdrop.

I kind of share your fears for the DEC token. The Dice packs were a big sink for DEC tokens and if this goes away, it seems that there is no limitation of supply in sight in the long run so we might face continuously dropping DEC prices. Since there is this algorithm that links rewards with DEC prices, it means also that players will earn less and less from victories and rewards. I'm not sure whether this move is positive for the long term economy of the game...

Interesting, seems SPS will attract a lot more value scaling up, if that works out well, I'm sure people wouldn't mind holding Dec out for SPS.

I'm sure the team will spark something to keep Dec in the game, probably, if it ever has to be wiped out, a chance may be presented to swap it for a much relevant asset in the game.

until when is the sps airdrop running? does it means holding sps now is a better option than having the dec to get the sps airdrop?

I play Splinterlands on a daily.
It is the only activity that engages me on hive.
