Dumping Gold Cards (Application of Good Investment Practice...)

A piece of investment advice that is always hard to carry out in practice is to let go of emotional attachments to assets that are either underperforming or have no intrinsic value to you. As more and more retail investors are being exposed to the direct trading of assets via low fee stock trading platforms and cryptocurrencies, it is a lesson that many people are learning the hard way... by holding assets and cryptos too long due to emotional attachment and finding that they are the last people holding the bags...

Well, for quite some time... I've been prone to holding these lovely Gold Splinterlands cards for too long, and not cashing them in for STEEM/SBD/DEC which could be better used to bolster my existing deck of mostly Beta cards. The gold cards hold very little utility value for me, as they are often less powerful than the vanilla cards that I hold, and the DEC bonus from playing them in the game is minimal at best. I don't even have enough gold cards to qualify my for Gold card tournaments!

So, I was definitely holding them against all rational reasoning... something that was brought home after reading this post by @slobberchops and a brief chat in the comments. From there, I was committed to letting go of the shiny gold attachments and would sell any gold cards that weren't being fielded in the battlefield.

This last week, I finally took the plunge and listed the shinies... There were a couple where they were still dominant over the vanilla cards, and so those useful ones I held onto... they were only a handful though... and only two that will have lasting power, it is more than likely that the other ones will be superseded as soon as the vanilla cards start leveling further.

Just seeing how many gold cards that I've been hoarding was a bit of a surprise... it's a page that I don't look at often... and there is quite a decent chunk of stored value there if I can sell them on the market. It is also a testament to lost opportunity, as the value stored in those cards could have been better redirected towards useful investment in Beta cards. Now, the Beta packs have run dry... and thus the cost of Beta cards is significantly more than before... sigh... spilt milk....

... and here is the list! Since listing these, most of these cards have sold.. and I have stuck to discipline, any gold cards sold from this list goes directly to boosting my Beta cards... to be honest, I have really seen a decent boost in the power of my cards, it's really something that I should have done a long time ago... however, this is how you learn! So, any gold cards dropping my way in the future are going to be dumped straight onto the market... after all, no utility value to me means no value to me!

It is the story of the Cock and the Gem all over again!

It's interesting cos I was thinking a similar approach - selling my gold cards and then upgrading whatever I have at the moment. A part of me just wants to hoard (i'm terrible!) but then I don't use most of these gold cards so why I am I holding onto them..... dilemma ....

Thanks for the curation!

Yes, it is a decent idea to let them go... I was also hoarding them. Unless you think there is future value in them. However, everytime I met your team in battle I get stomped on... So I'm not sure you need to be more powerful!

I do level up the Golds and use them, but not all. I like you have a mountain of unused ones but they get played with my 'library account' @dismayedworld who gets into the Gold ranks now every end of season and gets me.. more of these cards. It never ends does it? ;)

Nope... it is an endless cycle of card inflation! Although... this season, I'm not seeing any gold cards... perhaps you are pinching all the of the ones that are rightfully mine!

Well the same story here. I also tend to sell my goldies too late. But after all I do sell them. Just like in your case, I don't have enough goldies to combine then so that they can match the boring non golden foil ones.
So I am selling them bit by bit.

Cheers,
Peter

I didn't wait for the bit by bit! I just dumped... I didn't have the patience, and I really wanted my regular cards to just get stronger!

Wow that's a hefty stack of gold foil cards! You'll definitely make a small heap of capital getting rid of those. It does almost look like enough for a gold tournament. Oh wait maybe not, I was just looking at them all together, not considering the splinters. Good luck

Yeah... they are spread through all the splinters... so not quite enough.. and even if they were, it would be weak in comparison to the other teams. Still, they have made a nice boost for my regular teams!

Been doing the same as well and even slashed a couple of Splinters (Death and Life) to boost the 3 I use.

Okay... I'm not quite that ruthless to slash splinters as well! I like to switch them up... and to complete the dailies!
