So You Wanna Beat Mylor?

If you have played Splinterlands anytime recently I’m sure you have encountered the menace, Mylor Crowley, no matter what league you are in. The ability he provides, Thorns, is just so powerful on its own and able to single handedly destroy teams. It is possible to beat, although it can be quite difficult at times.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the most effective ways to beat Mylor:

Avoid Melee like the Plague

If you don’t use melee, then how can the thorns hurt you? Both magic and range have a large amount of options, no matter what color you use. Monsters with close range are your friend, and luckily a pretty solid card with it was recently added; Lava Launcher.

Alric Stormbringer with lots of magic users tends to be a quick, simple solution. But doesn't always work, be aware of the Unicorn Mustang.

If at all possible, one of the best options tends to be Yodin Zaku, the summoner allows you to heavily focus on range and blast the thorns right away. He even allows melee cards to get some bonus damage off without repercussions.

Another simple option is the old reliable Llama mage and any healer, who cares about thorns when you heal 6+ health a round. Typically works best on lower mana cap battles.

If You Have You Use Melee

Sometimes it's not an option to go without a melee. If you must use melee, always try to have the shield ability as it reduces the thorns damage to 1 and that's much more manageable.

It’s also advisable to have armor on any melee attackers you can, this will buy a little bit of time before they start losing health.

I try to avoid Sneak, opportunity, and anything with less than 5 health if possible. Something such as Sandworm is on the fence, largely dependent on mana cap. The 5 damage can often be enough to be worth the thorns damage.

When All Else Fails

Mylor is in a very strong spot right now, and can not always be countered due to the shifting rulesets. If you can’t beat them, join them. If your opponent can use Mylor, so can you.

Mylor isn’t inexpensive to rent, but even a level 1 card can allow you to climb through silver and is always a valuable option to have in your backpocket. It only takes one or two wins to pay for the rental, so he will pay for himself in no time.
