Splinterlands

It's been a very long week for me and that's why I am always posting my entry late. The physical world is tiring.
Joining the contest this week and my inspiration is from

Usually I use Krita for most of my drawings but I thought I use Medibang on this one and I gotta say, it was pretty cool.

1-For this piece I wanted to keep real simple. So I decided to draw Lira The Dark, I wanted to give my own spin on her character. Like always I start with a sketch pose. I wanted her in a some what pose, after a couple sketches I finally decided on a pose. Sketch done is time for the line art I open another layer below the sketch layer, lower the opacity of the sketch layer and on line art layer I trace over the sketch, fine tune the line art definite it clearly.

2-With the line art done, next I put in the flat colours. I create another layer for this, I create a flat colour layer for the clothes, skin and hair, I keep the layers separate for easy editing.

3- Once all the colours are in, the shades and shadows come in next. I pick a colour from the surrounding, change the blending mode to multiply lower the opacity and draw in the shadows. I make 2 shadow layers, the outer and inner shadows. Now because I wanted the piece to look fairly cartoony, I don't blend the shadows too much, I use the blend brush and brush around the edges until it's just the way I want it.

4-5 After the shadows are done, I add some lighter shades, to give the drawing more volume. Satisfied with the way it lights and the shape of the character is taking place, I paint some more details in, I add the necklace in, paint in the make up on her face and a blood stain off her lips.

6- Almost done with the piece, at this stage I add the highlights, I draw on the highlights on her hair, eyes and lips. And then I colour in the rim lights around the edges edges of the character. I use the colour red on the left and blue on the right.

7- Now that the character is done, I go on to draw the background, I wanted a forest vibe, so I paint the background with a gradient of red and purple, then I use a dark(not so dark) red for the trees, different layers with different hues so as to correlate with the surrounding hue. I add in some birds in the distance and bing bring bang boom, the background is finished. Of course as always, I blur , let's just say it's my signature move 😁 and the background is done.
