Splinterlands Social Media Challenge! Where you play Splinterlands?

There was a lot of talk and announcements regarding the new Modern format of the game. In this new format, only cards from Untamed, Dice, and Chaos Legion will be played. That also includes Reward cards from those expansions, same as new expansions that are coming like Rift Watchers.

The real question is where the majority of the players are going to play. Wild or Modern format?

I don't think that answer to this question is that simple. Both formats/pools will have their own pros and cons. Of course, it will be better to play in a format where is fewer players because you should get more DEC in that format. Why? Because the reward pool of that format will be split between fewer players means a bigger stake of DEC will be awarded for each victory.

That simple? Play in a format with fewer players?

Absolutely no! We are far from the end of this dilemma. While the number of players in each format affects the number of awards there are other factors that must be taken into the consideration.

CP - Collection Power

Collection Power is important as it determines in which league you can play, of course, together with your rating. But let's be honest, CP is the problem for most of us. At the middle of the season, I already have enough rating for my out-of-reach league but there is not enough CP in my pocket. And yes, I could rent some CP to squeeze in some additional rewards, but those rentals are so expensive at the end of the season that I just don't rent anymore.

With the new Wild/Modern split, there will be some CP adjustments for the Modern format. The last information we got from the Splinterlands team was that the CP requirement for Modern would be halved. That means it will look something like this. Take into account that the Splinterlands team announced that CP requirements for the Modern format will be cut in half but this might change as we don't have an official post regarding this.

What CP halving means is that you will be able to play in a higher league than you could in a Wild format which means more rewards for every win in form of DEC and SPS.
Old and GF cards

Same as now, ECR(Energy Capture Rare) will determine how many points you will earn towards a new rank of rewards. ECR is and will be the main factor of your earnings, while older cards (Alpha, Beta, and promo) and Gold Foil cards will boost your DEC, SPS, and Focus Points that you get per win.

Ant this is the most significant advantage of the Wild format, usage of Alpha, Beta, and Promo cards. But everything has another side. With the new Reward 2.0. system (https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@splinterlands/splinterlands-ranked-rewards-update) the more competitive side of Splinterlands is introduced. Your earnings will be greatly determined by Focus points that you will earn through victories. That means it might not be smart to go in Wild format if you don't have enough strong cards.
Daily Focus and Season rewards

This one is pretty easy, If you are looking just Daily Focus and Season Rewards it is the best to play in the format where you can play in the highest league possible. For most of the new players that would be the Modern format - and that is also where I will play. Why? Lower CP requirements for different leagues mean I will be able to play in Champion. If I play in Wild I could play only in Diamond. It means that I even might have some extra 50k CP to rent as only 200K is needed for Diamond I(we should get final info on that).

With the New Rewards update, this means in the higher league I will need fewer victories for Daily and Season chests. **And the new Reward System is all about victories - so yes - play in the format where you can get more wins. **

Conclusion

It all depends on your set of cards. If you are a new player with Chaos Legion cards, then yes the Modern format is the one for you. You could play in the Wild format, but then you need to rent so you could be competitive. And we can all see that victories and smart management of ECR will be crucial for success in the new format.

On the other hand, if you are an older player and you have a decent number of A/B and Promo cards then yes, the Wild format is for you. The modern card will only help you to fill gaps in your deck and all those older cards will help you with not only DEC but more importantly, with obtaining more Focus points for both Daily Focus and EOS Rewards.
