As much as Splinterlands get crap some times from some of the hive community I have to say they are running one hell of a business that continues to expand and helps to fuel the value of hive overall. Anyone saying otherwise needs a quick slap in the face IMO. That being said there's some major updates happening including a AirDrop! Coming in hot next month as the gaming space continues to grow here on the Hive blockchain.

In this article I'm going to go over these updates, what we know about the airdrop so far and what we could expect for the rest of 2024.

The History

I'll keep this section nice and short but I still feel like it warrants some attention. Splinterlands launched a while ago but it wasn't until the bull run of 2020 that the market really started to take off. My few thousand dollar investment back in the day quickly turned into nearly 1 million dollars worth in assets. That blew my mind! From there the company expanded as many do during a bull run because it feels like cashflow is endless and the hype will never fade. (Those of us old enough and being through a few cycles ourselves that's not the case) Yet it's a trap many businesses and people fall for over and over again.

Part of that expansion was into a new game set called #Invennium not to be confused with Illuvium which for some reason people get mixed up.

This was to open up the code base for Splinterlands into other game types of which the GLX token was born for the Genesis League Sports set of games which will be starting with Genesis League Goals which is a game based around soccer and it's players.

Like many though once the bull run hit the bear market for a very long 2 years it ended up crushing a lot of businesses. In fact from what I've been able to see a good 70% of the games I used to play on other blockchains ended up closing up shop or simply just stopped being worked on. It's a normal cycle though and those that survive it end up have good sound fundamentals and tokennomics. Of which Splinterland did struggle with for a while but now seems back to it's core which made it so dang powerful.

With that being said the GLX token is now expanding (It's unclear if SPS will be a part of this airdrop or not but we might find out more on Thursday Feb. 1st 2024 during the normal Town hall.

What we do know so far is the following.

A new core platform is going to be launched which sounds much like SPS and GLX in which more games will be released on. It's a arcade platform instead called Arcade Colony which sounds like it will end up housing a lot of new games. One of the first is a game called moon karts which we don't know much about yet but more details on it including some extra details on the airdrop for the new platform.

For now we know GLX and GLUSD that are staked or in Tribaldex.com liquidity pools seem like they will be counted for this new airdrop.

Of course this news so far has already been spiking the price of GLX which has been long forgotten to many lol

Up over 100% in just a short time it will be interesting to see what happens with all aspects of these games and governance tokens in the next week and month leading up to the full release of a new game. I'm also now curious if the game Soulkeep might release on this new platform instead. (Total speculation)

Overall though we are starting to see the works of massive growth in the gaming space here on the hive blockchain. Which makes total sense with it's fast blocks and no fee transactions it's a very smart platform to build on.
