Today I want to deep dive into a Hive blockchain game called Splinterlands I've been with the game since it first started all the way back years ago when Alpha released. While I never did get to max out my Alpha deck I did however invest heavily into Beta creating a total of 3 max level decks of which I then sold some off. Fast forward to today and I now hold a number of Splinterlands assets across the board but there's still plenty of whales now above me.

The goal of this article is to show you all of the ways to earn SPS the governance token of Splinterlands. As well as an overview of why you might want to stock up on SPS yourself and what it does for you.

What Does SPS Do For You?

Playing The Game

Playing the game SPS allows you to earn extra rewards for winning battles in both Wild and Modern formats. The entire breakdown of that currently is as follows.

What this means is say you're fighting in Gold 2 you would want to have 112,421.29 SPS staked in order to maximize your rewards at 12x. If you moved into Gold 2 however you would only earn 10x the rewards unless you pushed your staked SPS to 179,399.15 SPS staked.

Votes

By staking SPS you get a vote and say into how the game shapes. The more SPS you have the more voting weight you have. This is done via the DAO system which is increasingly getting attention.

Earning SPS

Battles

By taking part in battles daily you'll be earning chests from both daily battles and seasonal rewards. These chests can hold SPS within them adding to your stack of SPS.

Tournaments

Many tournaments have prices that are for SPS however many entry costs will also cost you SPS that is not staked in order to enter into the tournament.

Staked SPS

By staking your SPS you're also going to earn more SPS. But you're also going to earn an extra little boost from staking SPS this way and that's in the form of Vouchers! Vouchers will be used throughout the game for many things such as airdrops, rewards, liquidity pools, maybe land and much more.

Harvesting Land

This is the newest way to earn SPS and results from owning lands in the game that are occupied and activity being worked.

Nightmare Packs

Nightmare packs are packs that were sold for a tower defense game which still hasn't been released. However as part of the DAO SPS was delegated to be released for the game. For now simply holding packs will earn you some SPS but there's nothing you can do with the packs themselves.

Liquidity Pools

By providing liquidity to certain pools you'll be earning SPS.

There you have it all the ways to start getting your hands on SPS and stacking it as quickly as possible. At the time of writing this we are closing in at 50% of all the SPS is currently minted.

This means SPS is going to start getting harder to come by and also with land 2.0 not far away I also have a feeling we are going to see a big increase in burn activity as new resources and a big mash up of land functions gets released. We will be going from Grain, SPS and Research to adding 47 other options to the mix that will have to be minded. Including buildings which will further increase burn rates and resources needed and really turn land on it's head compared to what it currently is.
