Web3 is a buzz term that gets thrown around a lot and since there's no real standardization as to what it really is or might be it's up to each person and company to make that ruleset at the moment. The next move in Web3 besides social is gaming and gaming normally takes off way ahead of everything else.

Hive Blockchain Has Great Options

Some of the best games so far that are live on the Hive blockchain are.

Splinterlands which went head to head with Axie back durning the bull market. Land plots were going for over $1,000 each and the largest land sale happened on wax for nearly $700,000!

Rising Star is another fan favorite. There's not much "money" to be made in this game but it's very passive and offers up some unique music promotion that I could see take off with some more marketing effort for sure.

DCrops Another great game that has grown over the years. It's very passive and you grow crops however it's expanded into creating items and harvesting other resources but it's not required to play the core game of plots of land and crops.

Other Game Development

While the core of development for games back in the last bull market was Ethereum we quickly saw how high fees simply destroyed projects. This time around it seems like we have enough new options and a lot of development projects happening that fees are either removed or very low cost.

Personally I feel if a games going to make it it needs to either use a feeless blockchain like Hive or Wax or simply cover the fees behind profits that game makes so the end user doesn't constantly get hit with them.

The main blockchains seeing massive development in the gaming space are Polygon $MATIC , Immutable $IMX and Arbitrum $ARB

What Hive Is Lacking

Hive saw one of the worst drops in gamers over the last two years and I believe many of us here have felt that. While there is new development happening one of the core reasons many are not using hive is the simple lack of frameworks. OP Stack seems to be the most popular option other then Unreal Engine. Hive could and should be offering up more options to developers and in my opinion is the job of the core dev team to create these frameworks that developers can build on top of.

My hopes are we see a lot more of that framework being built here in 2024 otherwise I fear Hive is quickly going to start becoming a dinosaur of blockchains. Either that or it needs to shift it's focus to being a Social blockchain and just build that but without a solid layer 2 solution and groundwork I feel it's going to be a losing battle rolling forward.

What Hive Gets Right

The core that makes hive amazing to build on is it's resource system and fast blocks. The resource system means powering up the native token $HIVE gives you resources to be able to interact with the chain. Be it social, gaming, threads or anything else it's a feeless blockchain. Applications can power up hive themselves and take on the costs of interacting with the blockchain (Most likely the best option) or it can put it on the user in which the user needs to have staked hive to be able to interact with the chain.

It also has community support which is such a powerful tool. By developing on hive you and blog about your updates, releases etc and get votes from the hive community which will help to earn you revenue and hive power to run your application. It's the only blockchain structured in this way that I know of and I believe many simply don't understand it well enough yet.

Overall though Hive is a great place to launch your project and gather support.
