Splinterlands art contest #277 (Mischievous Mermaid)

First let's talk about what is the format of the Contest and how do we take part in it . Because alot of New artists on Hive don't get what this Contest is about.

Every week Splinterlands Community holds a art contest and bunch of other weekly contests too. People who wanna take a part in this will be required to draw one of the Splinterlands card from Splinterlandscards.com , in their own original art style . You can use any medium or. Sculpt something inspired by that specific character on card . The choice is completely yours Tracing and Plagiarism is Strictly prohibited .

Now that we know what is this Contest here I'm again with another entry .
This week the character I'm drawing is (Mischievous Mermaid)

So my process starts with noticing the details about the character . Why and how it's different from other . As we know the Character is a mermaid that's well Mischievous but the real character was kinda like cute chibi one so I decided I will make a chibi version of it too . I start by Sketching we see her long hair flowing and she has a Hair band for them , Some gets on her hands , a Trident attached to her mermaid tail, the armor and hair band have a lobster shell feeling and the mermaid is green in skin with the tail and hair being vibrant pink .

Usually chibi bodies that I draw have a really round minimal base for the body but since she has a very prominent shaped torse I made it mini but also it has the tiny waist line and cute hands arms . This is by far the first chibi character I made that's also curvy .

For the hair I didn't let it go up like usually happens in water instead I really made some strands flowy there was a certain waistband like thing that was coming from the tail to waist also there is blades attached to her tail with a golden trident. I made her eyes big yet she had this slight grin just like a Mischievous kid .

When I was done with the sketch it was time to import this sketch into a digital software where I carefully made the lineart over the rough sketch with a pen sharp brush I just follow the basic shapes and improve where the sketch needed more details like hair .

I do lineart for all elements on different layers just because I like to color them differently that's how I like it.

Next I just started filling flat colors all over the mermaid on different layers the armor. Hair accessories were deep red , the light green for ski , magenta for her hair and purple for her tail lastly black , grey and golden for her blades and gears (All the colors in my pallette were chosen cold because it's a underwater scene so alot of blue saturated color tones will be here.

Now comes the rendering . How I render is I keep in mind how this material would behave in light why is it's texture where the light will hit .

I started by shading and highlighting the armor , then I shaded and added highlights on her skin with water color wet brush and to make it subtle I guassian blur it so it looks smooth

Now I shaded and added highlights to her tail and accessories . Lastly for hair I used 3 different shades of magenta , pink and light pink to make the strands add more depth and add that glowy effect to the hair to give it more shine and luster .

Then I added a underwater gradient background to her and added small teal fragments on to of it guassian blurred it a big . I colored her eyes royal blue and colored the lineart of my mermaid too .

Lastly I added my water mark and did some color adjustments added a sparkly cute highlights to her eyes and here is the final look.

I hope you like it . That's all for today Thank you for your precious time and support ❤️
