Earthquake: Uriel is the Silver Champ!

For the battle mage secrets challenge this week, we are presented with the earthquake ruleset. A ruleset that used to be ruled by the flying summoner brighton bloom. That is still a solid play however often she is not played as much and other meta plays have come to the forefront. We will discuss a few other options for this ruleset and then get into breaking down my favorite strategy using Uriel the Purifier. The link to the full battle is as follows: https://splinterlands.com/?p=battle&id=sl_38c2d8300ff7d7c25c3bc1c0c0864246

Earthquake Ruleset

  1. Play flying monsters: nothing real sneaky here as naturally your flyers will not take damage. This strategy is tough to do however if the dragon summoner is not in play as there are rarely enough flying monsters for each element to pull a full team.

  2. Shield up: Earthquake damage always hits shields before going to your hit points. Any high shielded monsters such as diemonshark or even better voided armor such as the new imperial knight, are a great option in earthquake rulesets. Add in a repair or resurrect and you have a very resilient monster/tank.

  3. Snare and high damage: A much riskier strategy here as you are going all out to hit your opponent hard and wipe him out before he has a chance to outlast your monsters. Snare is the ability that takes flying away from your opponent's monsters and is championed by the water summoner vera.

Now that we have covered a few strategies, we will combine the top two and show off a nice win using Uriel with Rathe which has provided me countless earthquake wins in gold and silver league.

Round 1

Earthquake and Supersneak here which screamed a uriel play here. Generally, I use uriel in the middle of the lineup and wait for my opponent to kill himself off or have one tank left that uriel can take care of. In this match however, I assumed my opponent would go with some sneak and wanted to keep my uriel protected a bit more as he could heal through some magic damage up front. This proved to be a good strategy as round 1 played out. My jaguar did his job eliminating his pelacor and knocking down his double strike character a bit. Uriel was barely touched and we are looking good in my opinion.

Round 2

In round 2, Uriel strikes and eliminates his oshannus while he takes out my pegasus in the backline. The bigger picture however shows my team with two flyers and two healers while he has no flying monsters and three out of four are exposed to earthquake damage.

Round 3

As expected, his double strike dealer goes down however he is able to take out my adelaide throughout the round. Again though, I have healing monsters and uriel up front who has remained untouched while he is completely open to earthquake damage.

Round 4

As we look at the starting lineup for this round, we can see it is all over but the crying. His monsters get taken out by earthquake damage and Uriel takes out his turtle to finish the job. He also has full health remaining showing how powerful he can be.

As you just saw, Uriel is really a strong play in almost any circumstance in earthquake rulesets as the heal, void armor from rathe, and flying make him super resilient compared to other monsters. He would be a great pickup for your lineup if you do not have him at level 2 yet. Please upvote or comment if you enjoyed this breakdown and if you have any other earthquake strategies that you have found consistent success with.
