Equalizer: Assassins Assemble!

5.jpg

For our battle mage secrets this week, we have the equalizer ruleset. No doubt a ruleset that requires using a few different powerful strategies as if you go in and throw out your best monsters you will lose. As usual, we will take a look at a few different strategies I have found for this ruleset and where there has been some success. After, the battle breakdown will occur showing a loss and complete lack of thought going into my lineup when it comes to this ruleset. Here is the full link to the battle for those that are interested: https://splinterlands.com/?p=battle&id=sl_00e392696b8b26f0b6f45050714249b0

Strategies:

  1. Use life leech or scavenge: Naturally the more health the better in this matchup and the more you can gain health throughout the match can be the difference. Especially in low or mid mana equalizer matches, life leech and scavenge can make a low mana card like dr. blight or life sapper unbelievable valuable as your last monster alive.

  2. Heal and Resurrect: Similar to the strategy above, gaining or maintaining health is imperative to winning matches in this ruleset. A bunch of heals with a double attack or heavy attack monster up front can be a nice way to win a match or resurrecting a void shield monster can also do the job.

  3. Targeted Damage: The assassin in all of us must come out in this ruleset when it comes to dealing damage. Spreading your damage out will only delay you eliminating monsters and give your opponent a chance to out damage you. This can be done with heavy attack to the front tank or targeted sneak damage on the backline as you will see in the battle below.

As mentioned, strategy three was the one that I failed to use and one that my opponent used nicely. Without further delay, here comes the breakdown.

Round 1

Equalizer with super sneak is the matchup we have here. I was asleep at the wheel a bit apparently as I went with a scatter shot and speed play. My opponent went with a targeted sneak play and a true strike monster which proved to be very deadly. In round 1, my speed strategy works for a bit however his goblin mech and minotaur hit hard. My damage was spread out too much leaving his monsters basically untouched.

Round 2

In round 2, things go from bad to worst. He eliminated my two back most monsters and taking down some of my speed manipulation. My damage continues to be spread out and I have not eliminated a single one of his monsters.

Round 3

Continue to go downhill here in round 3 as my bear is eliminated taking away shield protection and his monsters are still alive and kicking.

Round 4

I am finally able to eliminate two of his monsters but it is too little too late. My monsters are bleeding out slowly while his are almost at full health. This match wraps up in round 6 and was a great win for my opponent especially with a under-leveled summoner.

As you can see, certain rulesets can go from bad to worse when if you do not have the right strategy. Even under powered monsters can take the win handedly if you have the right strategy and your opponent does not. What a great game this is and equalizer!
