Novice League Tournament Strategy: My 3 Top Cards

In this post, we will examine the top 3 cards for novice league tournaments in my opinion. Novice league means cards are all level 1 and often do not include legendaries. Most of the tournaments are also untamed, dice, reward, and chaos only. Due to the above restrictions, we have these three cards that have treated me well in novice tournaments and I feel offer great value in this setting. One card that does not make this list but is also fantastic is the summoner Mylor. Personally, he was the bane of my existence prior to chaos legion. With that being said, he is a great summoner and used often in tournaments.

Djinn Chwala

This card is a must have in novice league due to it being one of very few monsters with thorns at level one. Furthermore, it is the only one with shield making it even more resilient. I enjoy playing this card in super sneak rule set as well as melee only or melee attacks from anywhere rulesets. It’s high HP and shield also make it a formidable tank in weak magic matchups. Pairing this card with Daria as a summoner is an even more potent use case for the djinn.

Magi Necrosi

Snipe is not a strategy that is used effectively much but I believe has a useful case in novice league. Given the heavy magic spam, getting around the void monsters like the unicorn can be quite difficult and on top of that they usually have a heal. Using snipe with the magi as well as death elemental allows for you to avoid the unicorn picking off the back line along with your sneak monsters such as silent sha vi. This will leave the unicorn all alone without a healer and your melee monsters doing major damage.

Lorna Shine

Lorna is a must have summoner for novice league in my opinion. The extra attack you can take with divine shield is almost an auto win in low mana matches. This also gives an extra use case for the life deck when you are not able to play the shieldbearer. Giving an extra turn for your monsters like pelacor arbilist or djinn renova to strike may be the difference in the game.

These three cards arguably could get you toward the top of the tournament leaderboard when used appropriately.
