Hello! This post is for the entry of Splinterlands Weekly Challenge. For this week, we have Earthquake as the theme. This battle is a battle from a Modern Bronze Tournament.

Earthquake

All non-flying units take 2 physical damage at the end of every turn.

  • snared units are considered non-flying. Since the damage given is physical, it can be reduced to 1 if the unit has the shield ability.
  • See flying ability.

Using Monsters with Flying ability, Shield ability, Protect ability is good in this ruleset.

Avaliable Type: Water, Earth, Light, Death
Mana Cost: 27
Counterspell: All units receive the magic reflect ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that attack with magic receive damage back.
Earthquake: All non-flying units take 2 physical damage at the end of every turn.

Apart from Earthquake, Counterspell gives Melee and Ranged Monsters more support.

Lineup

Summoner: Kelya Frendul. It gives +1 speed and +1 armor to all units for only 4 mana. Armor is really useful in Earthquake ruleset and it was really cheap, so I used it.

First position: Torrent Fiend. It costs 0 mana to play, and I was hoping it would soak a hit from the enemy frontline.

Second position: Djinn Oshannus. One of my favorite Water monster. For 8 mana you get 2 magic attack, 5 speed and 10 health. Counterspell ruleset can be ignored because of the Void ability since it will only get 1 magic damage when reflected.

Third position: Venari Marksrat. It was placed there so after it dies by Earthquake, it would buff Djinn Oshannus and Pelacor Bandit which is the best units that I had.

Fourth position: Pelacor Bandit. It has flying so It does not get damage from Earthquake. It only has 1 attack but with high speed it could deal some damage.

Fifth position: Venari Wavesmith. Venari Wavesmith was chosen because of the protect ability. It gives +2 armor to all friendly units. With Earthquake, the armors will be important.

Last position: Clockwork Aide. Although it has 1 health, high armor in this ruleset is nice. Clockwork Aide is sued to soak Sneak and Opportunity damages. It also gives +1 speed to all friendly units.

Round 1

My opponent used the same summoner, but the monsters were slightly different. They countered Protect by Noa the Just, and they had more melee monsters. After dealing some damage, Torrent Fiend was quickly eliminated.

Round 2

Earthquake damages only affected both monster's armor. Venari Wavesmith's magic attack took down Noa the Just, and my monsters got the armor back.

Round 3

The enemy monsters were heavily damaged by earthquake, while it only affected the armor of my monsters. Tide Biter and Angelic Mandarin was taken down quickly.

Round 4

Earthquake took Venari Wavesmith, Clockwork Aide, enemy Venari Marksrat down. Djinn Oshannus attacks Deeplurcker and it dies

Round 5

Earthquake kills Djinn Oshannus and my Venari Marksrat, and it gives buff to Pelacor bandit. Both pelacor bandits attack each other.

Round 6

They are at the same health and it looks like RNG will decide the winner.

Round 7

Luckily I am able to win this battle.

Thoughts on this battle

It was really interesting to see how this battle went. There was some close calls but Djinn Oshannus' speed made me able to win this battle since it missed many attacks.
