Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge! - Equal Opportunity
Hello! This post is for the entry of Splinterlands Weekly Challenge. For this week, we have Opportunity as the theme.
Chimney Wallstop
For this post we are featuring Chimney Wallstop, a Common Fire Gladiator card.
Bronze - At level 3, it has 5 melee attack, 2 speed, 3armor and 9 health with 2 abilities, Reach and Bloodlust. With Reach it can attack from the second position. It has a nice 5 melee attack but 2 speed wouldn't be great against high speed tank.
Silver - At level 5, it gains another melee attack and loses 1 health. It also has a new ability: Repair. With Repair It can restore a third of the max armor of a unit that took the most damage.
Gold - At level 8, It gains 1 more speed, armor and health. No new abilities but 3 speed makes dealing accurate blows easier when bloodlust is not triggered.
Diamond/Champion - At Max level It gains another new ability which is Strengthen. Strengthen gives all friendly monsters +1 health which would be useful.
Opportunity
All units gain the opportunity ability which allows them to attack the unit with the lowest health on the enemy team.
Using Monsters that has high DPS or Blast, Gladiator ability is good in this ruleset.
Battle Info
Rank: Modern Novice
Avaliable Type: Fire, Light, Death
Mana: 42
Earthquake: All non-flying units take 2 physical damage at the end of every turn.
Equal Opportunity: All units gain the opportunity ability which allows them to attack the unit with the lowest health on the enemy team.
Counterspell: All units receive the magic reflect ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that attack with magic receive damage back.
Counterspell and Equal Opportunity is better for melee monsters that cannot attack from the second position. Martyr monsters will be also good since Opportunity and Earthquake would be able to take it down quickly. The mana cost is also not small and it would allow some strong monsters.
Lineup
Summoner: Eternan Brune. It gives -2 armor to enemy units and allows a gladiator card in battle. The abilities would be useful because of Earthquake Ruleset. Counterspell also favors fire element so I used it.
First position: Gargoya Lion. Not the best monster I would choose for 6 mana but flying would dodge some shots and protect it from earthquake damage.
Second position: Firecaller. 5 mana 2 ranged damage monster with martyr. It would boost adjacent units. 2 ranged is pretty nice but it would quicky took down because of its low base health.
Third position: Chimmey Wallstop. The main Damage Dealer in my team. It has 5 melee damage for 10 mana, and has Reach and Bloodlust ability. With -2 armor from the summoner and Opportunity ability, defeating an opponent would be easier.
Fourth position: Venari Marksrat. Another monster with martyr. It has only 2 health so it would be targeted for the attacks. I recently got a GF and I've been using it a lot.
Fifth position: Gargoya Devil. Another monster with flying so it would not get hit by earthquake. It has a low base health of 3 but it was placed there so after it gets a buff from Venari Marksrat, Firecaller will be targeted first before this card since it is more further back.
Last position: Tenyii Striker. At this point it was the best choice because with 5 mana it has 2 melee attacks and 6 health.
Round 1
The lineup was shown and it felt like we both went for similar strategies. However they had only one martyr. After the battle started both Venari Marksrats were quickly taken down. The enemy Pyrewatch Devil was taken down by my Chimney Wallstop, and enemy Chimney Wallstop took down my Firecaller.
Round 2
After the Earthquake hit, Enemy Tenyii Striker was taken down by my Chimney Wallstop which was the fastest. Forgotten one took my Tenyii Striker down by Enemy Chimney Wallstop missed the attack for Gargoya Devil which was only 25%. It was really important to miss that attack because It did not triggered the bloodlust.
Round 3
After another Earthquake, Chimney Wallstop took down enemy Tust the Wide that had only 1 health. The Forgotten One took Gargoya Lion and Chimney Wallstop took Gargoya Lion down and got the Bloodlust.
Round 4
It looked like the battle was not in favor for me, but if I survived this round by missing either attack, I was going to win. Earthquake removed armor and enemy Chimney Wallstop did miss the attack and it was clear that I was going to win.
Round 5
All that was left was the enemies last unit: Fortgotten One.
Thoughts on this Battle
I was not really felling great about my chances but it was more better than I expected! Opportunity Ruleset makes playing melee attackers more fun.
Thanks!
