Who is that person playing that toon that always flogs you in ranked battles? haha
Well this theme focuses on just that, meeting the person behind the avatar.
In each episode, we mention that we love engagement on our posts, and encourage people to comment, and holla at us if you want to be on the show. Well tonight's guest, did just that.
@misterrogers, commented on a previous post, and I asked him if he'd like to be a guest on the show, and he agreed. Another member of The Shield of Glory guild, like a previous guest @sinistry, misterrogers shares with us a little of his background story, both in life and in his Splinterlands journey.
misterrogers shares how he went from brand new, to Championship II league, in just 2 months, so a true inspiration to any new players out there.

I, also, had very little experience with deck building games and almost rage quit when I finally level my serpentine soldier to 5 and didn’t get the next ability because my Malric wasn’t powerful enough.
It actually took about a year, maybe up to 18 months, before I stopped cursing the dev team for being “GREEDY MOTHER FUCKERS! Fuck you and everybody you know! Cocksuckers”, every month or two as things changed that brought about a new challenge I wasn’t prepared for.
Now I know better, mostly. 😁

Haha re: the dev team, that's some funny shit. I love 99% of what comes out of their mouths
The hardest hit I took was when they started paying DEC for affiliate payments. I didn't realize it for a while and when I did notice it felt like Aggy and Matt conspired specifically to hurt my feelings. I was bummed out for days, for no good reason, even, since I don’t even earn affiliate bonuses.
However, back then Aggy was trying to get an ambassador program together to allow us to split our affiliate bonuses with locations, so we could just put a QR code in a local comic book store or game shop and collect from passers by instead of having to talk people into it by happenstance, so I thought I was gonna turn that into a significant income stream. I still like that idea, and now that Covid is calming down I hope they reconsider releasing it.
That's a really great idea. I hope they do release it. I have the feeling a lot of us would pound the pavement, so to speak.
I would. I live in a small but somewhat bustling town so there’s a lot of local businesses that would benefit from it.

@mattclarke Dude, I couldn't take my eyes off of that flying squid the whole time you guys were talking. I thought you'd win it because you chose to share it, but I had a feeling that blindness would cause you a problem that wasn't really being acknowledged during the discussion. When that first attack from spark pixie missed I knew it was over.
I put far too much faith in the rng leaning my way, and it seems like it never does, lol.

@giotrix I think challenges are a great idea! I’d love to do a live challenge, even though, like @misterrogers I tend to suck the proverbial ass in gold league. None the less, it sounds like a lot of fun.
Quick side query… has anyone played a challenge since gladiator cards were released? That seems like a good place to allow access so everyone can practice using them to better prep for brawls. We should petition governor aggy. 😁

I'm comfortable most every other place...
I really don’t know. I think a lot of my issue is thinking I have access to abilities that aren’t unlocked at that level, but whatever it is if I fall into gold a nearly drown in it struggling to get out. It’s the quicksand of ranked play.
Yeah. Gold absolutely messes with my head. Maybe it's because some abilities are there and some aren't, whereas at lower leagues, most aren't there at all so it's easier to manage.
Yeh, I play the A&B frays in the brawls, but they're capped at novice level, I don't know why that is, but yeh, feels like I'm competing in the 100M freestyle, with no arms or legs.

That aspect of going head to head with someone is cool, so next time we'll do that. @misterrogers is coming on the next one to do that as well, you should come on the one after. Never challenged in brawls is that a thing ?, if so we can do that also, why not.
No. I don’t think it is. I was just thinking we should allow gladiators to be used in challenges where rank isn’t affected. That seems like a fun way to get more casual use out of them without breaking anything.
Im all for the options conditons tab in challenge allowing that, as you said in an unranked manner that would be fun.
I asked about it in the suggestions channel but haven’t followed up to see if anyone has discussed it.
Not on the priority list i guess. I couldnt imagine with my ignorant understanding of anything that goes on in the background that it would be hard to add.
Yeah. It seems like it would only take a tweak to whatever code keeps them locked to guild brawls. I bet the code would take 5 minutes to write and 6 weeks to test. Lol
Yeah, it seems so small to us but probably a decent amount of work for them. i hope to get it eventually though because its a good idea.

They already have code that blocks them from all but brawls. A slight change to allow brawls and challenges should be easy.
It’s just the time and attention to make sure it doesn’t break anything that seems like it would take resources they don’t really have at the moment.
Honestly, I know why it isn’t a priority, but enhancing challenges is something that should be down the road. Practice and challenges both seem to go pretty much ignored, but both can bring a richer experience to the environment.
I’d even like to see some kind of initiative to encourage challenges among guild members. Kinda like brawls but against mates.
I cant argue with any of that. I think the more features added into the game, that isnt detrimental to the economy the better (in this case it would be un-ranked). I like the sounds of allowing brawls within guilds and against other guilds as practise.
