Yo Yo My Sovereigns, Wattup?

Welcome to episode 16 of my weekly Splinterlands 101 podcast, with fellow @hiveaustralia members, and co-hosts of the show, @mattclarke and @giotrix

This episode, is another "Behind The Avatar" themed chat.

Who is that person playing that toon that always flogs you in ranked battles? haha

Well this theme focuses on just that, meeting the person behind the avatar.

This week, our guest is quite a Splinterlands legend.

The one, the only @exyle

Winner of the first ever Splinterlands tournament, click here to view the final battle and also winner of the auction to have the first boss monster named after them, when the PVE aspect of the game is released.

Click here to see original Hive post

and something a little different this episode too, instead of picking a couple of recent battles to analyse and discuss, we throw @giotrix in the deep end, and get him to do 2 battles on the fly, while we analyse and discuss, firstly the lineups, then the battles themselves in real time.

Shoutouts to his opponents for these battles; @szalony and @ioioioioi

and remember, if you'd like us to analyse and discuss one of your battles, just drop a link in the comment section below.

...

and a special shoutout and congratulations are in order this week to @aggroed for the birth of his son, born on 420 no less 😍

...

I hope you enjoy this episode, as much as we enjoyed making it.

and don't forget, each week 1 viewer will have the opportunity to win 10% of the posts rewards. Details on how, included in this video.

So what are you waiting for? Just press play 😉

...

Please Enjoy.

Peace.

Ah! Now I see the "rant" from @mattclarke about people retiring from Splinterlands. I honestly can't disagree. I've had to liquidate significantly more of my long term holdings than a I want to, and I may end up going back to work... not so much because I need the money at this point, as I'm still fairly solid across the board, but I'm missing out on amazing deals.

Plus, you're correct. I still spend the same amount of time on Splinterlands, and I'm bored as hell. It was nice during the winter when I didn't want to get out anyway, but now the sun is coming back it sucks. Everyone I would hang out with has a job or family to manage. Fucking breeders. ;P

Anyway, I gotta get back to the show. I just stopped by to chime in about crypto-tirement and I've done that. You're welcome. ;P

Haha, thanks for dropping by. Either way you look at it, it's still a nice problem to have 🤩 that's all still just a pip dream for me, and a nice dilemma to look forward to 👍

We recorded this episode just before the last one was posted, so I got them confused. If anything, Splinterlands has taken the pressure off my day job.
I still do it, but knowing I could retire instead, really takes the edge off; and lets me keep re-investing 100% of my earnings, instead of cashing anything out.

Man, I’m envious, but I’ve also ridden enough highs right back down to bottom that I had to take some profit just to feel like I’d finally won a round, 😁.

Plus, even though I haven’t been as productive as I’d like, it’s given me some time to explore the first thing I’ve ever been this interested in and at least half-ass served as something of an educational period, so I’m juggling pros and cons to be sure.

I'd also like to touch on the bot issue @exyle pointed out. Most players don't realize what bots actually bring to the game. They see them as farmers, but they earn their keep, in my opinion, by ensuring I always have a competitor.

I haven't been around quite as long as @mattclarke or Exyle, but I remember having to wait for 5+ minutes only to get an message that there were no opponents for me to battle in the early days. I don't think that's been an issue for years now.

I think Yabapmatt has the right idea. Banning is not the answer. The solution is to incentivize those wth bot armies to consolidate into a powerhouse champion team. It's not an easy fix, but paving the road to the future through uncharted territory never is. We should all try to remember that we've stepped off the beaten path and are pioneering our way into civilization version whatever.something and part of that journey is inclusiveness. Banning doesn't fit into the equation anymore than slavery can exist in a free country.

One more thing on bots... Knowing you're up against a bot is an advantage. As @bobaphet pointed out, bots are looking for the most logical cards to play, as well as what cards the opponent will likely play. If you think like a bot you can often easily counter what they submit.

However, as @giotrix pointed out, it is a different scenario for beginners, as I, too, have tried to bring back alt accounts with minimal assistance from my primary account and it was far more challenging than I thought it would be. However, we have a thriving rental market and one can get an entire deck for pennies a day, so having a hard front line of bots contributes to the success of that. It may seem like it sucks for new players, but it really adds a game within the game and demands layers of strategy to succeed.

As always man, you're on point again. I had totally forgot about the waiting for an opponent aspect of the game, it was so long ago, but very valid point.

Yeah thats fair sinistry. I dont always use the rental market and often forget to mention it, however you are right. All it takes is a few cards to help considerably with getting out of bronze.

@giotrix I laughed my ass off at your first match, but only to keep from crying for you. I agree you were robbed! Two misses in a row with that kind of a speed difference is like God spitting directly in your face. I don't think you deserved that, despite your unholy porn addiction.

Hahaha, I love your candid wit. The world needs more of it. @giotrix got his payback though, taking us all by surprise with that classic flesh golem raping in the 2nd battle.

I knew he was gonna win that one! That twin strike from silvershield thing I can’t remember the rest of the name of with the summoner boost was the clincher. When Matt said he didn’t think he could do enough damage I felt like he wasn’t considering that, which is an honest oversight, as it took me a minute to realize it, too. Great show! I enjoyed every minute of it!

I watched so many hours of Exyle's vlogs during the Steem days.
He kept a close eye on the chain, and offered authentic editorials. So much nicer than wading through hundreds of comments on multiple posts, trying to work out what was going on. Great to chat "in-person" at last, and to see him still engaging in the space :)

I still don't understand why you left Steem/Hive, isn't the project doing better than ever? No more Steemit and premine liability and all...

Het is tijd om je comeback te maken, man!
