Social Media Challenge - My Favourite Fiends

avatar

Hello dear Splinterlands community, it is time once more for the Social Media Challenge!

Today I want to take a look at some monsters that have largely been forgotten and are definitely underrated. I am talking about the Fiends!

I made some good card trades recently and since market prices are still down, I decided to get a couple of Fiends for my deck. At lower levels, these Fiends aren’t terribly exciting but a max level, they have useful and effective abilities.

These are the Chaos Legion Fiends and their abilities at max level:

Fire Deck – Scorch Fiend - Demoralize
Water Deck – Torrent Fiend - Headwinds
Earth Deck – Fungus Fiend - Slow
Life Deck – Soul Fiend - Swiftness
Death Deck – Corpse Fiend - Silence

These are great abilities to have in your lineup when you can spare the spot, so these little darlings are especially useful in low mana games. Looking at these abilities, I decided to go for two fiends with important debuffs for the opposition: the Scorch Fiend (Demoralize) and The Corpse Fiend (Silence). The both synergize well with their respective Chaos Legion summoners.

Lets take a look at them both:

The Scorch Fiend brings Demoralize to the table. Together with Tarsa (+1 melee), the combination imposes a 2 melee difference on the opposition. In low mana games, most stronger monsters are melee attackers and +/-2 melee can make a decisive difference. At max level, the Scorch Fiend also has 2 melee himself to make 3 with Tarsa and has 3 speed, not shabby at all! Imagine this guy in a low mana Equalizer ruleset!

The Corpse Fiend has Silence in his arsenal. Together with Thaddius Brood, the combination imposes -2 magic on your foe. When you can anticipate your opponent fielding a magic team, you will have a good counter strategy. The Scorch Fiend remains at 1 melee at max level and has 3 speed.

Both these monsters are new inclusions in my deck and I enjoy playing them. I want to show you two little battles to illustrate how useful they can be.

the first battle is a fire fight with a 20 mana cap and the predominant ruleset is Super Sneak, hence a melee team. It turns out that the Scorch Fiend walks off the field an unscathed tank with two scalps on the board. What a great performance by a Fiend, check it out:

ROUND 1

To begin the battle, our team had a considerable melee advantage with 21 melee attack to 10 from the opponent. Exploding rats inflicted some immediate damages followed by some enemy retaliation. The Chemists cleansed the Fiends and the show went on. Our Fiend then had a Fiend for dinner, the Radiated Scorcher was in first enemy position but attention was on the enemy Antoid Platoon, which promptly bit the dust.

ROUND 2

In the second round the enemy house of cards came tumbling down. The Radiated Brute took one hit to wipe out along with the Exploding Rats through Blast. The Scorch Fiend got his second scalp and the Chemist was a sitting duck. Round 2 ended early and I made some coffee.

⚔WATCH BATTLE⚔

The second battle I want to show you is a deathmatch featuring the Corpse Fiend. Here the Corpse Fiend contributes greatly to debuffing the enemy's attack power. Quix took 1 range and 1 speed and the Corpse Fiend took 1 magic. That was enough to tip the scaled and the battle was a war of attrition to snuff out the enemy.

ROUND 1

After all the buffs and debuffs and a cup of coffee, the battle began. The Monk took a pounding and a dose of poison before being brought down to 1 health by the Soul Strangler. Crypt Beetle took magic damage but shielded well against melee attack and toasted the Monk at the end of the round only to succumb to the Revealer.

ROUND 2

It was 5 to 5 with both tanks gone and 2 Shadow Snitches facing each other. Poison came down again on the enemy while the enemy Bonesmith did not reciprocate with the green stuff both times. Soul Strangler came again with a deadly blow to bury a Snitch.

ROUND 3

Some magic was thrown around, some life leeching was going on and then the enemy Revealer had to go. This looked like it was going to be a quick victory now. Our Snitch died feeding both enemy magic monsters. All this life leeching was going to drag the battle out now.

ROUND 4

In round 4 everybody took nibbles at everybody and health was low all round.

ROUND 5

The enemy Bonesmith took his leave, so did our Revealer and at the end of the round there was an enemy archer in first position and a leeching Life Sapper behind him, who took till round 8 to take out.

⚔WATCH BATTLE⚔

So there you have it. The Fiends are greatly underrated, can be really useful in certain circumstances and can surprise us all by dominating the battle. I really like these guys and I think I might get another one of these little darlings. But which one?

Well, my water deck isn't so strong. Although I could find strategic use for Headwinds, I still have a bunch of blue monsters that are not at diamond level. My legendary summoner is at gold level, too.

The Soul Fiend is interesting but I would not have to rely on him for Swiftness, meaning speed manipulation. I have other ways to speed up my life team.

That leaves the Fungus Fiend, which might just be the go. Slow is good to have in the earth team. Not only are there plenty of slowpokes in the Earth deck in need of some speed manipulation, the only other monster with Slow I have in the green team is the Slipspawn. I might get this Fiend next.

I hope you enjoyed reading my post! See you in the next Social Media Challenge.
